Dal-Tor

Benn will more then likely sign long term with the stars but if he doesn't would this trade work for dallas in regards to value ?

To
Dallas
Kessel
Gardiner
Bozak/Conolly
Reimer
2014 1st

Toronto
Benn
Lehtonen
oleksiak

Toronto gets its # 1c and a# 1 goalie and a solid d prospect, dallas gets a #1 winger, a #2c behind roy and a 1st in 2014 and a potential 1b starter. There could be tweaks to the deal but in terms of value I think it's close. What do fans from either team think ?

Dr John Carlson 01-13-2013 10:56 AM

From a neutral fan, Toronto gets fleeced.

DKQ 01-13-2013 10:58 AM

Kessel is about equivalent to Benn, a TOR 1st in 2014 is equivalent to Oleksiak. Is Toronto trading Gardiner just to get rid of Connolly's salary?

Ampersand 01-13-2013 10:58 AM

No thanks, this is brutal

Hockey 4 Life 01-13-2013 11:00 AM

Took out oleksiak and put in lehtonen might be lopsided the other way now but thats the fun of online boards. Thanks for the input.

BayStBullies 01-13-2013 11:00 AM

I have a hard time moving Kessel alone for that package; throwing away Gardiner and a 1st is asinine.

Are you nuts? I know we value Benn highly (and rightly so) but any deal with 5 pieces coming back, 2 of which are Kessel and Gardiner, has to at least be considered.

I agree, and I think under the assumption that benn can't be signed this really helps to rebuild the stars while keeping them competitive in the process.

GordieHoweHatTrick 01-13-2013 11:04 AM

Jamie Benn already stated he prefers the anonimity in the Dallas market to playing for any Canadian market. He'll be back with Dallas

Analyzer 01-13-2013 11:04 AM

Why does Toronto do this ?

Flukeshot 01-13-2013 11:04 AM

Value aside, this just puts Dallas in Toronto's current situation. A problem in goal and a group of forwards that won't be around in two years when that goalie problem might be fixed.

Fire Lindy 01-13-2013 11:05 AM

Kessel is only 2 years older than Benn and they put up very similar numbers..this deal looks awful for Toronto..

What makes Benn so much better than Kessel?

Oh I don't disagree, but if GMJN receives a "blow me away" offer he'd be dumb not to listen

Leafs say **** no

HarrisonFord 01-13-2013 11:07 AM

Toronto gets forceably bent over

Because their record with trades is abyssmal, so this would be par for the course.

Hockey 4 Life 01-13-2013 11:11 AM

I added in oleksiak does the bridge the value gap a little for toronto ?

The Podium 01-13-2013 11:12 AM

Take out Gardiner (and Oleksiak if it skews value the other way) and then id really consider it, going into the season with

JVR - Benn - Lupul
Kulemin - Grabovski - MacArthur
Frattin - McClement - Kadri
Komarov - Steckel - Brown

Phaneuf - Gunnarsson
Gardiner - Komisarek
Franson - Liles

Lehtonen
Scrivens

Leaves our only holes as #4D and backup goaltender......

May just be my man-crush on Benn, but hes probably the only player id move Kessel for (in a feasible deal of corse)

Well for one he hits like a tank, He's far stronger, kills penalties with the best of them, will eventually be scoring more goals consistently and generally plays much grittier. I would not take gardiner and kessel for Benn. Lehtonen is far greater than Reimer, much more than Bozak or Connoley would make up. If the leafs got out of basement and made playoffs behind Benn and Lehtonen, Oleksiak is worth more than a 16-30 pick. I would say no from Dallas and if I couldn't sign Benn, I would be looking for different building blocks.

therealkoho 01-13-2013 11:25 AM

you can't trade scraps/cast-offs/cast-aways/simul-casts/casting reels/strato-casters and never were's for players that still won't get you to the promised land

if anything the Leafs should move Lupul, Gardiner and that 1st to the Broons for Nathan Horton and Jared Knight

your right, Dion Phaneuf and Keith Aulie for Stajan, Hagman, White and Mayers ;awful deal for the leafs

JVR for Schenn; again terrible

Dumping Toskala and Blakes contract for one year of Giguere; see above

And we can't forget how bad the Anaheim deal was for the leafs. You know, the one where we trade Beauchemin for Jake Gardiner and Lupul.

Terrible track record with trades

Frozen Failure 01-13-2013 11:30 AM

Everyone involved says no. Your proposal is bad and you should feel bad.

TieClark 01-13-2013 11:31 AM

It does not make sense to include Kessel in this deal... narrow it right down to Gardiner and the 1st for Benn and expand from there. Neither side would be thrilled with that which leaves it at a good starting point for a realistic trade.
