Kings trade Kevin Westgarth to Carolina for Anthony Stewart, '13 4th rd, '14 6th rd
@TSNBobMckenzie: To get Westgarth, CAR traded Anthony Stewart, its 2013 fourth-round draft pick and a sixth-round selection in the 2014 draft to the Kings.

That's crazy. I can't believe it, I'm gonna miss Westy. But that's a crazy haul for a guy who wasn't going to see ice time.

Live in the Now 01-13-2013 11:21 AM

Definitely a crazy haul.

FrozenKing18 01-13-2013 11:22 AM

Bye Westy

AKAY47 01-13-2013 11:22 AM

2 picks and Anthony Stewart? For an enforcer? This lockout has GMs going crazy. Well done Lombardi

onlyalad 01-13-2013 11:22 AM

I didnt think the Kings would trade anyone

MsMeow 01-13-2013 11:23 AM

What the heck? I'm shocked that they got so much for someone who was likely going to the minors!

Telos 01-13-2013 11:25 AM

Wow. That's crazy. I think this is a great pickup.

CTKingsFan 01-13-2013 11:27 AM

Holy crap! That's a lot for Kevin Westgarth!!

Bandit 01-13-2013 11:28 AM

Stewart pretty much sucks right? Still a lot for a goon. Westgarth is a good kid, wish him the best...

Shellz 01-13-2013 11:29 AM

I wish him good luck. Great guy. I don't see Stewart offering much, but it will be interesting to see.

sweatypickle 01-13-2013 11:30 AM

4th line playoff insurance...

no name 01-13-2013 11:38 AM

Jokes? That's absurd. I'd do it for the fourth rounder.

Lead Role in a Cage 01-13-2013 11:38 AM

Add a little salary, add a couple of draft picks.

johnjm22 01-13-2013 11:42 AM

I guess our players are overvalued now because we won the cup. :)

Westgarth is a great guy, but he doesn't bring much to an NHL level hockey team unless they get into a bar fight after a game. Even if Stewart never plays for us, it's still a great trade in terms of asset value.

Johhny Utah is gonna be pissed.

no name 01-13-2013 11:43 AM

Boy, after some research I see that Stewart is better than I thought. Excellent fourth liner.

GKJ 01-13-2013 11:43 AM

To get one draft pick for a goon is great. To get two and a player is even better.

SuperAlmeida 01-13-2013 11:45 AM

Now let's trade Simon Gagne + for Chris Stewart. Just kiddin!

CTKingsFan 01-13-2013 11:51 AM

Who would've ever though that the undrafted Kevin Westgarth who has 1 goal 4 assists in 90 NHL games would land us a 4th round pick and 6th round pick and former 1st round pick who had 9 goals and 11 assists in 77 games just last season....

Ummm Go Dean Go!!!

wow! WTH?

ummm, good move DL...!

cyclones22 01-13-2013 11:54 AM

I thought this was a typo. Crazy return.

KingsFan7824 01-13-2013 11:55 AM

Did Westgarth play after Sutter showed up?

Good team guy, but just no spot for him. Plus if you get 2 picks, I think you have to do it. Stewart isn't anything special either, but he's a UFA after this season, so it opens up cap and contract space for next year.

Knight of the Realm 01-13-2013 11:57 AM

Wow! Westy is a great teammate but he just fetched a ton. I would have done it for the draft picks alone. Stewart is a big guy who can chip in some minutes on the fourth and produce more than Westy. Not bad Deano.

Ziggy Stardust 01-13-2013 11:57 AM

Westgarth would fit in well with Carolina, he's already missing teeth. That's a nice haul for a cheerleader.

BigBrown 01-13-2013 12:00 PM

I don't care for Stewart but the picks are nice. Westgarth was a good guy, looked great (relatively speaking) in the '11 playoffs too, but wasn't getting any ice time once Sutter got on board.

KingKopitar11* 01-13-2013 12:04 PM

Wow. So happy hes gone.
