A UFA Scott Gomez

So two parts.

1. Scott Gomez were a UFA right, would he get offers from teams?
2. If so, how much money do you think teams would be willing to spend on him at this point in his career?

Vankiller Whale 01-13-2013 11:57 PM

Is he still capable of playing 3C?

boredmale 01-14-2013 12:02 AM

I am guessing 1 year 3M, 2 years 5M, 4 years 8M

I would have to say no. He almost went a year between scoring a goal.

Psycho Papa Joe 01-14-2013 12:03 AM

I'd offer him a training camp tryout.

Minimalist* 01-14-2013 12:06 AM

Safe to say his career in the NHL is all but done.

Aceonfire* 01-14-2013 12:09 AM

I still think he can perform in the NHL. I think everyone in MTL gave up on him and he gave up on performing. He was never worth that payday he received, but I think on the right team he can turn it around. Maybe NJ? lol

Altimus 01-14-2013 12:10 AM

I hear PHX is looking for a centre...maybe they can overpay with a good prospect defenceman.

leaflover 01-14-2013 12:11 AM

I'd be shocked if there wasn't interest in Gomez next year. His multimillion dollar contract days are likely done but he still has NHL talent.

A prime reclamation candidate.

That's kind of misleading as he was injured a fair bit last year and when he was in he played on the fourth line.

If given a chance as 3C with decent wingers and some 2PP time he should be a 2-2.5M player. Still carries the puck well, has good vision and passing and is reasonable defensively (played on MTL's PK which was one of the best in the league). His biggest issue IMO was the pressure put on him by that huge contract and if he went somewhere less intense with a smaller deal I think he would do okay.

Andy 01-14-2013 12:20 AM

Gomez needs to get sheltered minutes at this point in his career imo. He needs to get softer matchups to perform.

CaptainCally 01-14-2013 12:20 AM

Camp tryout if the team was in DESPERATE need for a C. I would NOT give him over $1M if I was offering him a deal.

danishh 01-14-2013 12:22 AM

camp tryout or one year league minimum.

he wont have much leverage.

he's 33 through. Might start thinking about retirement too.

My thoughts exactly.

Morlu 01-14-2013 12:34 AM

I'd offer 2 mil, 1 year with. Second year team option at 2.5

DuklaNation 01-14-2013 12:37 AM

Zero.

I thought option years were out with the last CBA, no? Are they back?

BobbyShehan 01-14-2013 12:45 AM

First, I think Scott is a fantastic guy to have around because he's so laid back and funny. Second, he can still skate around and protect the puck for long periods of time. Bring him back to Jersey Lou, even if it was just as a PK specialist.

LickTheEnvelope 01-14-2013 12:51 AM

$1.2-$2 mil range.

me2 01-14-2013 12:51 AM

$899999

KingWantsCup 01-14-2013 01:10 AM

What is wrong with you people? His career is over. He's atrocious and doesn't even deserve ELC kind of money.

Honestly, imagine Raymond at center but with less offense. That is Scott Gomez.

lakai17 01-14-2013 02:04 AM

great ahl depth.

Benjamin 01-14-2013 03:07 AM

He can play for that Alaska team?

Mouse21* 01-14-2013 03:10 AM

i think in a small market team he could do alright
