Lupul for the rights to ROR
Granted that a extension could be signed with Loops. Any interest as a starting point for a trade?

Lupul + Gardiner and the Avs might think about it.

DerkyMoeDiggs 01-13-2013 11:17 PM

Lupul isn't exactly enticing, or fit the mould of this Avs team. He had what, one good season in Anaheim? And then one good season last year, been inconsistent his entire career, I'm not willing to give up even the rights to O'Reilly for him. Unless your name is Jake Gardiner, I doubt Avs GM Greg Sherman is willing to listen, because that's all the Avs need, a left-handed d-man to play with Erik Johnson

 you have got to be joking...ignoring the horrible value, another one of these? This is ridiculous.

blueNwhite89 01-13-2013 11:33 PM

man we are going to hear it for this

Lupul is a season removed from being a salary dump and a season from being a UFA.

If Leafs had O'Reilly leafs fans would probably be trying to trade him for Crosby and a 1st.

Kamal007 01-13-2013 11:59 PM

I'd rather give Bozak for RoR

Don't forget Blacker and a 2nd rounder.

I'm sure AVs fans would rather give the Leafs a 3rd round pick for Lupul

Ya that sounds more of a fair value. Oreilly is poised for a breakout season, and is the type of player any team would want in there top 6. I would think if TO wants him we would have to pay a high price.

Lupul isnt worth much to any team. Sure he had a great last season, but as mentioned before he is a year away from being a salary dump in a career thats filled with more downs than ups. Leafs may hit a homerun and lupul may just be a late bloomer. But more likely we will see Lupul's production decrease. He is worth more to Toronto to see if he can continue his production, as his salary isnt a burden to the team.

Overall, im thinking: Bozak + Holzner/Franson/ + 2nd/3rd. In my mind a bit steep for what TO is getting in return. However ROR would like sweet in the blue and white.

Except think about it from Colorado's perspective. You're asking for a player that is still an RFA for years, 8 years younger than Lupul and arguably Colorado's best player last season.

In return you're offering another winger for Colorado that they don't need, nor does he fit in the ideal age group like O'Reilly does given the make up of the core of the team. Lupul has also had injury problems in the past and as of now there is is the risk that either the injuries return or he turns out to be a one hit wonder. Throw in Landeskog, Downie, McGinn, Parenteau, Jones, etc. and Lupul just isn't a player that makes sense to the Avs. You could argue whether Lupul is better than some of them, but the difference isn't enough to offset the loss of O'Reilly.

The individual that said the Avs might consider Gardiner + Lupul was right. That is the type of offer that would make the Avs consider it. While Lupul showed this year he is capable of being a very productive player, he hasn't been able to do so and play 82 games before. Throw in the fact that there is the chance that Lupul walks after this season and Colorado ends up with nothing for who was arguably their best and most consistent player for all of last season.

And while there is no way of knowing for sure what Avs management is thinking or would be demanding in return for O'Reilly, but I'd say that it is reasonable to assume that they would be looking for more than Gardiner. That isn't because I think Gardiner is a bad player, but he doesn't fill an Avs hole to the extent that O'Reilly does and at least in the eyes of Avs fans O'Reilly is a player that could bring in a bigger return for the team in terms of filling that hole on D. There are better fits in terms of young D in the league that Colorado would prefer to look at, especially when it is a player like Lupul (for the reasons listed above) that would be needed to bring the additional value to Colorado.

You could call it personal preference in terms of which D the Avs would desire, but at the same time Colorado is looking to fill their needs at the same time and as long as there are players that could potentially benefit the team more than Gardiner there are other options that the Avs would be better off pursuing if O'Reily is on the market.

Strangely enough Bozak has one less career point than ROR in 44 less games. Going by this past season Bozak had slightly more PP/TOI (2:47 vs 2:21) and less PK time 0:41 vs 1:10) but still comparable it seems, at least in the sense that Bozak appears to be a poor mans ROR

That is not a statement that Bozak is better than ROR, just a funny observation.

If you're looking at Radar's points to assess his value rather than his play, you're doing it wrong.

Insert joke about a stickied thread of "____ from Leafs for Colorado center" here.

I'd do Gardiner for Radar.

That's a bit too much.

How about Lupul and Stu Percy?
