Might not be bad as a #7 dman...was a bust as a first rounder, but Buffalo liked him enough last year to give him a multi-year deal.

Former 1st round pick. 25 years old. A whopping 6'8, 249 lbs. Anyone got a scouting report on this guy?

Hipietro 01-14-2013 12:16 PM

6'8" 250lbs? This guy is a monster.

Waving the white flag on Visnovsky.

Strummergas 01-14-2013 12:19 PM

Anyone got a scouting report? Former 1st round pick. Only 25. Are we looking at another Carkner here in terms of ability?

Visnovski had until 10 AM this morning to report or be suspended. Wonder if the KHL will allow him to continue to play. If so I suppose this begins the war between the NHL and the KHL.

Maybe, but it also couldn't hurt having this tough SOB in Bridgeport either.

Woodhouse 01-14-2013 12:20 PM

FYI Finley's a big, stay-at-home defenseman who can be physical and will fight; conversely, he has slow feet and will contribute little offensively outside of a first pass.

jdr016 01-14-2013 12:20 PM

How did he get from Washington to Buffalo?

Koobs11 01-14-2013 12:21 PM

should be intersting to see what he brings, his skating isnt to bad so say some reports, could work out for us if hes a solid stay at home banger and crease clearer

Correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't he have to stay with the big club since he was claimed off waivers?

Brunomics 01-14-2013 12:23 PM

He can kind of fight but other than that I'm not sure what his usefulness is. He's just another career minor leaguer.

yes he has to stay otherwise waiver reverts back

Brunomics 01-14-2013 12:25 PM

Don't know where to stick this but Hickey wasn't claimed and is back on waivers. Plus Wishart, Backman, MciVer are all on waivers today.

Buffalo was pretty happy with his play last year...they signed him to a 2-year extension.

Looks like he is part of the Isles plans as they just waived Wishart.

I don't think Hickey actually made it to the wire in time yesterday to be claimed today. Wouldn't make sense for LA to expose him again if he cleared.

OK, I forgot about the waiver rule.

On a try out basis, he landed a contract with the Rochester Amerks. About halfway through the season an NHL contract. Quite a long way for a 1st rounder to fall but he made it back the hard way.

At this point that may be just what the DR ordered for this team. Granted, a thirty point man from the back line couldn't hurt. OTOH this team was amongst the worst in the league as far as keeping the puck out of their own net. I think Tampa, Toronto and Columbus were the only teams to allow more goals last season.

Giuseppe Franco 01-14-2013 12:30 PM

Second coming of Eric Cairns?

OpAck 01-14-2013 12:32 PM

Good bout with Martin last season...

Seems to have a good attitude too...leader type...

Watching a few clips of him...he is slow as molasses. Very Eric Cairns-like.

We could only be so lucky. Finley certainly has the size to bang though, he's big like a bear. His reach must be killer.

steveat 01-14-2013 12:37 PM

Our d core just got a whole lot bigger since predraft.

I see "shutdown" dman. Stay at home player with that size..holy crap.

jdr016 01-14-2013 12:37 PM

If you can't beat them, beat them up!
