Waiver defenseman buffet for NYI

BonMorrison 01-15-2013 11:08 AM

Good pick-up.

Vitto79 01-15-2013 11:08 AM

nice move, so do they have room for him and that Finley waiver dude? Must be.

Mike Jones 01-15-2013 11:08 AM

Wow - I thought he cleared yesterday. I forgot that weekend waivers were 48 hours.

TMLFC 01-15-2013 11:08 AM

eh why not.

Solid move for NYI, no loss here.

They aren't. New CBA, waiver periods are uniformly 24 hours.

Marlo Stanfield 01-15-2013 11:10 AM

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWW. I was hoping we could acquire him in a trade for a 3rd or 4th rounder for awhile but I'll definitely take him for free :handclap::nod:

hototogisu 01-15-2013 11:10 AM

Not really surprising with the Visnovsky ordeal.

Not suggesting Hickey will replace Visnosvky but a little more depth might mean you don't have to feel pressure to rush Reinhart, or something.

Telos 01-15-2013 11:12 AM

Makes a lot of sense. Best of luck to him, that is probably the best fit possible for him in the NHL.

SenzZen 01-15-2013 11:13 AM

Good for them.

sully1410 01-15-2013 11:15 AM

I was hoping the jets would get him.

JawandaPuck 01-15-2013 11:16 AM

NYI hoping to strike gold twice via waivers...hopefully Hickey can pull a 'Grabner' and NHL-ify his career track.

Raccoon Jesus 01-15-2013 11:18 AM

Great.

Now instead of the board telling us over and over how much of a bust Hickey is, we're gonna get reamed for letting him go :P

Great fit for both org and player. Cheers to a long NHL career for Hickey. Poor kid had a rocky start with injuries, but he's going to be a #3-4 defenseman for a long, long time. Mark my words.

IslesNorway 01-15-2013 11:19 AM

Always had a feeling this would happen. Hickey the protoypical Snow pick up - a former high pick with potential unfulfilled.

Marty Straka 01-15-2013 11:19 AM

Crazy how far he's fallen since being drafted 4th overall to being a waiver wire pick-up.. Always thought he'd be a talented D-man.

Hero 01-15-2013 11:20 AM

Hope he can be a 5/6 guy in NYI

In addition to what Starpainter said, Hickey actually wasn't placed on waivers until Monday either.

Free Edler 01-15-2013 11:21 AM

Glad to see him get a shot in the NHL. Wasn't going to happen with the Kings, they're just too good.

DontgoZiggy 01-15-2013 11:22 AM

Best of luck to him, I hope he does well there.

isles31 01-15-2013 11:22 AM

Glad the isles took a shot on this one. I think Hickey has the talent, he just has been hurt and got buried underneath other guys who havent been injured. We'll see how this goes but im happy the isles made this pick up. Finley, not so much, but this i like

Roo Mad Bro 01-15-2013 11:23 AM

lol, didn't even play a single game in a Kings uniform.

What a bust pick.

Ronk 01-15-2013 11:24 AM

Good luck to Hickey. If he makes the squad ill have a reason to watch some Isle games this year.

CNS 01-15-2013 11:24 AM

What a ****ing idiot Lombardi is. The kid is the smartest defenseman in Manchester and has finally become a solid defensive defenseman who can still move the puck a little bit and he never gives him a shot. Such a ****ing joke. Why draft him that high if you're never gunna give him a shot?

blinkman360 01-15-2013 11:25 AM

Excited to see if a change of scenery helps.
