Waived: Bodnarchuk

Looks like Muzzin will be the #6 while Mitchell is out.

http://mayorsmanor.com/2013/01/bodna...llie-mitchell/

going to be interesting to see what happens when Willie comes back and Muzzin is performing. who stays? who goes? Muzzin or Whiskey?

mbar 01-17-2013 12:14 PM

Wouldn't Muzzin likely be the #7 behind Davis Drewski?

Something up the proverbial sleeve, perhaps.

Don't they have to get the roster down to 23 by tomorrow? I don't see anything special in the works here.

That's probably all it is.

With everything a bit wonky because of the lockout, does anyone know for sure if IR players can be retroactively placed back to last Saturday when camp officially opened? I would assume this was the case. Wondering because if Anze isn't ready to go for a couple games, they could fill that roster spot.

Ziggy Stardust 01-17-2013 01:23 PM

Rosters have to be finalized by noon tomorrow. The Kings' 23 man roster is set for opening night:

FORWARDS (14)
Dustin Brown, Mike Richards, Justin Williams, Jeff Carter, Dustin Penner, Simon Gagne, Jarret Stoll, Trevor Lewis, Dwight King, Jordan Nolan, Colin Fraser, Kyle Clifford, Brad Richardson, Anthony Stewart

DEFENSEMEN (7)
Drew Doughty, Rob Scuderi, Slava Voynov, Alec Martinez, Matt Greene, Davis Drewiske, Jake Muzzin

GOALTENDERS (2)
Jonathan Quick, Jonathan Bernier

INJURED (2)
Anze Kopitar, Willie Mitchell

If Kopitar returns, the Kings will probably assign one of Nolan or Stewart to Manchester or trade Richardson to make room.

When Mitchell returns, Muzzin will be back in Manchester, or they could possibly move/waive Drewiske.

Flour Child 01-17-2013 01:53 PM

You don't waive someone with that cool of a name.

Did Hakan Loob ever get waived?

Hakan Loob was a really good player. He had that 50 goal season with the Flames.
I believe he scored alot of SH goals that year.

Has Toffoli been sent down yet? I am assuming he will be, but haven't seen anything about it.

He will be, if he hasn't already.

I believe Muzzin has to clear waivers as well.

Frankly I'd waive Richardson or Drewiske before I waived Muzzin. Richardson was crap most of the year last year and both are UFA's after the season. Keep Muzzin as the #7 when Willie gets back.

Nice to see this kid develop. If he has a big year in Manchester I assume he'll be replacing Gagne or Penner in the line up next year.

As for Bodnarchuk, no big loss. This was expected. Hopefully he clears because Manchester needs the bodies.

KingKopitar11* 01-17-2013 03:13 PM

Will TT play if one of our top 6 wingers get injured?

Rod Buskas* 01-17-2013 03:21 PM

i was under the impression that Muzzin had been less than impressive in Manchester.

and now we end up waiving Hickey AND Bodnarchuk ?

With Kopitar healthy, we have 5 wingers who could play in the top 6 (4 spots). So I imagine it would take at least 2 injuries until TT gets a look.

I agree with all of this 100%. I'd waive Drewiske or trade Richardson before waiving Muzzin, even though I've been disappointed in Muzzin's progress as of late.

Bodnarchuk isn't a big loss. He was signed as a free agent this summer, and other teams had the option of acquiring him for free anyway.

And as for Toffoli, I agree that the Kings see him as NHL ready; they just want to give him more playing time.

[QUOTE=Rod Buskas;57747025]i was under the impression that Muzzin had been less than impressive in Manchester.

That's true, Muzzin has had some injuries this season though.

I think Bodnarchuk has been the better dman than Muzzin to date in Manchester.

Johnny Utah 01-17-2013 03:59 PM

Mancheter's coach compared Muzzin to a young Willie Mitchell. That seeled Hickey's fate right there. Kings will need to replace Mitchell in 2 years, Scuderi in 1 and Greene in 2. Martinez, Voynov, and Doughty are either locked up or only eligible for RFA.

It doesn't take a genius to figure this out...All the Kings stay at home, bigger guys are about to be UFA's while the puck movers are under RFA status or locked up (Doughty).

They changed it to 2pm PST, as they realized some teams on west coast may still be on ice at that time, so they pushed it two hours.

TwoForRoughing 01-17-2013 04:53 PM

I don't really get it, personally. I get that Muzzin has experience and the size, but he was far outplayed this year by both Bodnarchuk and Hickey.

KingKopitar11* 01-17-2013 05:19 PM

I don't like waiving Bodnarchuk Muzzin should of been. He's been subpar compared to Bodnarchuk this sucks

BigBrown 01-17-2013 05:40 PM

Guys like Bodnarchuk are available every summer as free agents. Muzzin has long term value that some teams might covet.

But once Mitchell gets back I wouldn't be surprised to see Muzzin waived or traded anyway. There are only so many roster spots and keeping him around as a 7th d-man not playing isn't gonna help him shake the rust off.

Besides, I'd personally feel more confident putting Drewiske out there in a game situation if needed than Muzzin if he's been as bad as you say in Manchester.

damacles1156 01-17-2013 07:06 PM

The Kings are in love with Muzzin's overrated size and reach.

Not in his ability to Defend. Three months of last year; and the first two months of this year, Muzzin was one of Manchester's worst Defenders.

But the plus is he has that size, and he is young (23).

He will split time with Davis hopefully. Cause Muzzin needs to play. It's a waste to have the kid sit in the stands when he needs so much work.
