Season predictions and theorizing

Lets have some fun with this. Give me anything from projected player stats too some potential scenarios (like a riot with the bruins or something, lol). Anything you can foresee happening this season.Stats or otherwise.

For example, I will go on record and say Vanek will pot about 25 to 30 (pretty steep since it will only be in 48 games.

Miller- 35 GP, 2.20 GAA , 928 sv %, 4 shutouts

Pominville- 22 goals, 20 Assists

John Scott will also cave in Lucitrolls face 3 different times this season:sarcasm:

We will sneak into the playoffs as the 8th seed and knock off the "Almighty Power Rangers"

Boose30 01-17-2013 04:50 PM

Leino has a complete turn around from where he was at last season

Hodgeson develops into the center that we all hope he'll become

Brayden Mcnabb finds a way to become a full time 3rd pairing dman which doesn't consist of another player becoming seriously injured, figured id say that now before i jinx something

Will make a big move at the trade deadline if we are in the position to make a push for the playoffs, my guess is since we're so friendly with Calgary we'll try to get Iginla

Buffalo slides it into the 7-8 spot of the playoffs after a heated 3 way battle with New Jersey and Tampa Bay separating each other by a point but most likely wont go any further than the second round this year

1972 01-17-2013 04:54 PM

we shock the hockey world and win the Stanley Cup.

CarlWinslow 01-17-2013 04:54 PM

The Sabres will beat Winnipeg in Winnipeg and I will no longer have to suffer the walk back to my car surrounded by irritating Jets fans who act as though their team has won the Cup.

Please God, let this come true.

SabresFanNorthPortFL 01-17-2013 05:18 PM

Grigs makes the team and wins ROY by putting up 20ish goals and 20ish assists.

Vanek plays at least 90% of last year.

Pomms plays at least 90% of last year.

FES remains a line to be reckoned with.

Pomms takes Grigs under him, becomes his RW, with OTT jumping up to Vanek-Hodgson, which gives us three solid lines, plus the best 4th line in the league with Gerbe-Hecht-Kaleta.

Vanek-Hogson-Ott
FES
Leino-Grigs-Pomms
Gerbe-Hecht-Kaleta

Miller is solid.

Myers takes a step forward right from game 1.

Hoff goes back to PP specialist.

Defense is all-around solid.

We win the Eastern Conference.

I feel your pain.

Grigorenko will score more points then any other rookie

Leino will have a MUCH better year.

Hecht will be injured in the first month of the season

The Sabres will take the 5th seed in the east

The Sabres will make it out of the first round of the playoffs.

Using their selection in the last round of the 2013 NHL draft to select the star player of the vaunted Tokyo Katanas.

SwordsgoneWild 01-17-2013 06:21 PM

Grigs will score on fellow countryman Bryz the Seive in the opener (well assuming if he's even in the damn lineup). Midway thru the second.

SwordsgoneWild 01-17-2013 08:46 PM

Also, who do you guys think will lead us in Power Play Points?? My vote goes to Vanek..

Totally Gerbe

Silence Of The Plams 01-17-2013 09:51 PM

Scott will score 5 goals.

Rob Paxon 01-17-2013 10:11 PM

Predictions:
- Grigorenko plays ~40 games, gets 23 points
- Leino has a solid bounce-back year, but everyone still hates him because he's not a 70 point (prorated) man
- Foligno does not average a point per game  but his energy level and momentum-building play do stretch over 48 games at a level not far below what he brought in those 14 (13?) games last season
- Prorated, Vanek and Staff would be 30 and 25 goal scorers, respectively
- Miller is locked in, closer to Vezina/final 3rd of last year than the first 2/3rd of last year
- Myers comes reasonably close to his rookie PPG (~0.5) rate while taking the next modest step in his physical/defensive game

These are all optimistic of course and would almost assuredly guarantee a very successful regular season.

I'll go with Pominville just for a different choice. Both put up a similar amount of PP points I believe.

ZZamboni 01-17-2013 10:11 PM

Predictions ...

For the losses ...
Miller's fault
Ruff's System
Should of played Grigerenko more
Regier should have done x, y, and z in the offseason

For the wins ...
Opponents were tired
Opponents had too many injured
The other goalie had an off game
We were just lucky to get the points

Pretty much sums up 50% of the game related posts for the season

Wisent42 01-17-2013 11:59 PM

Optimistic:

Vanek - Hodgson - Pominville stay healthy and together for the entire season as our top line, with Vanek putting up 30 goals on the board.
Stafford finds consistancy in his game and deliver on a regular basis with Foligno and Ennis.
Grigorenko gets good ice time, outscores Yakubov and wins the Calder Memorial Trophy.
Leino bounces back.
Ott, Gerbe and Kaleta gets under the skin of their opponents.
Scott beats people up.
Myers lives up to his potential.
Our D doesn't leak, and when they do, Miller takes care of it.

Pessimistic:

Injury pleague strikes again, leaving us with Hecht, Adam, Ellis and Porter as centers.
Grigorenko playes 4 minutes per game with McCormick and Scott and is then sent back to juniors.
Myers starts the season poorly and finds his game just as the season ends.
Our D leaks, and when they don't, Miller does.
Ruff signs extension for life.

Realistic:

A mix of the above.

JOHNBOY 01-18-2013 12:50 AM

The PP will suck again this season..

* I'd still take it.

Hasek 01-18-2013 02:36 AM

Vanek will win the Rocket Richard!

SwordsgoneWild 01-18-2013 02:56 AM

Sekera will continue to become our most underrated assest.

Marcus will finish Top 3 in the Calder race.

FES will start off the season like they finished last.

Hecht will prove to be his reliable old self and also play injury free (haha we'll see)

Miller continues his strong play from the second half of last season (minus that last week)

Ott and Kaleta will draw 3 penalty's anight (each)

We will sweep the Maple Laughs (yeah i said it)

Zip15 01-18-2013 06:55 AM

Miller: 20-13-4, .918 SV%. Still not good enough for most people.
Enroth: 4-5-2, .909 SV%

Despite closing the season strong, Sabres finish 9th and miss the playoffs by one point. Management blames a midseason 2-7-1 streak on injuries to forwards, even though anyone can see that forward corps was perilously thin entering the season. Neither Regier nor Ruff are terminated at season's end.

Grigorenko: 10-15-25
Ennis: 14-22-36
Stafford: 17-14-31
Foligno: 9-14-23
Hodgson: 14-18-32
Poms: 18-21-39
Vanek: 20-18-38
Ehrhoff: 7-16-23
Myers: 6-16-22

Continuing the trend from last year of moving guys who aren't under contract after this season, Regier trades both of his impending UFA defensemen at the trade deadline even though the Sabres are still in the playoff race.

Leopold is traded to St. Louis for a 2014 2nd rounder.
Regehr is traded to San Jose for a 2013 2nd rounder and a 2014 3rd rounder.

Steve Ott runs Tuukka Rask in Buffalo. Bedlam ensues, but John Scott is tucked away on the bench. When he skates the next shift, he cannot find a willing combatant. People rip Darcy for signing someone who won't fight that much.

joshjull 01-18-2013 09:49 AM

I predict a lot of irate opposing fans raging over something Ott or Kaleta did.

I feel like if all this comes true the Sabres battling for 7th-8th would be quite a disappointment.

I predict the mods will be giving out a lot of infractions and spending way too much time cleaning up GDTs and GBUs because of visiting fans. I think JJ spent the strike praying Regier didn't manage to acquire Tootoo when camps opened.

It's hard for me to think stats with this shorter, compressed season. But:

Scott: Will win every fight he participates in.

Folingo/Ennis/Stafford: Will pick up right where they left off last season, but Ennis will get hurt midway through.

Grigo: Will start out okay and impressive for 18, get better, and then switch his number to 89.

Sekera: Will have another unsung hero defensive year

Hodgson: Something just won't work out with him centering the #1 line opening the door for....get this.... Broken-Joken-YoChen Hecht or Grigorenko

Myers: Will be more dominant than he was last year, more closer to his rookie season. Might get suspended for a game for almost killing an opponent accidentally and will also have a pretty good fight in a game.

Leino: Will be better than last season while still not meeting those $4 mil/yr expectations.

Vanek: If it were an 82 game season he'd score 36. Tough to say in 48 games though because he seemingly goes weeks in a scoring drought and in Lindy's doghouse and then will go nuclear getting a goal+assist in every game for 2 weeks.

Miller: Will be better after the concussion has worn off.

Lindy Ruff: At one point he'll throw **** on the ice out of frustration at the team and refs.

The team: Exceeds exceptions of the national sports press and is 5th in the east if they don't take their division putting them in 3rd. Makes it to 2nd round of playoffs. Goal scoring will improve. Offense and Defense won't be their problems, it will be winning games with the parts they have.

Rick Jeanneret: Sticks around for another season after this with the blessing from Pegula to broadcast whatever games he wants to or doesn't want to.

Rob Ray: Will fit in good as color man.

TJ Brennan and Weber will be traded.
