Leafs sign Joffrey Lupul to five-year contract extension
Extended til 2018.

Kamal007 01-20-2013 11:22 AM

Solid contract I think. .25 more than I expected, so not over by much.

capitalsrock 01-20-2013 11:22 AM

3 threads haha

Tony Romo 01-20-2013 11:22 AM

Limited no trade clause to.. leafs can ask for a list for 14 teams. Him and Kessel have been great together since traded here hope he keeps it up

The Ultimate Warrior 01-20-2013 11:22 AM

That was fast. Hit?

mighty all the way 01-20-2013 11:23 AM

Too much for one good year, which he ended up getting injured again. Hope he does well, but I don't think this is good for the Leafs. 5 year deal is too long for a guy who is injured pretty much every season and only has had one season that is worth 5.25 mill.

Vankiller Whale 01-20-2013 11:23 AM

If I were the Leafs I might have tried for a shorter term and higher AAV.

Very risky for both sides, but hopefully it works out.

Roof Daddy 01-20-2013 11:25 AM

Yikes. The guy has some skills, no doubt, but hardly what I'd call consistent. 50/50 chance he lives up to this deal.

bruinsfan46 01-20-2013 11:27 AM

History of injuries and inconsistency make it a definite risk. Has been good as a Leaf though.

Nick1219 01-20-2013 11:27 AM

That's quite a bit of money for one good season... but he's definitely got the talent. We'll see how it goes.

Insta 01-20-2013 11:27 AM

Seems pretty risky to sign him for that long after 1 good year

This about sums it up. He seems to have some real good chemistry with Kessel, who is also locked in for a solid number of years.

RogerRoeper* 01-20-2013 11:28 AM

Good. Now re-sign Kessel soon.

Warden of the North 01-20-2013 11:29 AM

Solid deal. Hes a leader on our team.

ranold26 01-20-2013 11:29 AM

Guys with 5-5.25m cap hits

mohare 01-20-2013 11:30 AM

Less money than Grabovski.

dredeye 01-20-2013 11:30 AM

risky contract with that term but not bad for cap

SprDaVE 01-20-2013 11:30 AM

Solid deal.

Leader for the Leafs on and off the ice, been great ever since he landed in Toronto. Seems to love the spotlight and handles the media exceptionally well.

Perhaps a bit overpaid but not worth losing him over a minor salary bump.

He would have likely received more on the open market.

Leaf Rocket 01-20-2013 11:31 AM

I'm glad this was done, I jst hope he can earn those years with us.

FlyLife 01-20-2013 11:31 AM

Makes me cringe like I did when he signed that 4.25 mil deal with us

Grandpabuzz 01-20-2013 11:32 AM

Meh a little too high, especially since he is injury-prone.

RogerRoeper* 01-20-2013 11:32 AM

The Leafs are in such great shape with their cap, I don't see a issue with this.

And it's not just 1 good year. He also had a very good year in Philly, and since day 1 2 years ago when he joined the Leafs, he's put up great numbers.

Pi 01-20-2013 11:32 AM

So glad it's 5 years. I was thinking around 5x5, so it makes sense he's gotten around that.

Great player for the Leafs, insane chemistry with Kessel. Hopefully that keeps going...he could have gotten more as a UFA.
