Plekanec to St. Louis

Montreal - Plekanec, Gionta

St Louis - Berglund, 1st round pick

Montreal gets a little younger and bigger up the middle and pick which will probably be around 22-27..

St Louis yes gets a little older but also get a great 2-way guy in Plekanec and a good goal scorer in Gionta.. They get stronger in a cup run and could possibly be the pieces to get them there.. Plus Gionta is signed until next year so they would have 2 seasons to push even more

Blind Gardien 01-20-2013 12:19 PM

It kinda doesn't look like STL needs to mess with anything atm... ? :dunno:

Stealth JD 01-20-2013 12:20 PM

St. Louis GM Doug Armstrong would say, "nah...we good"

tfriede2 01-20-2013 12:26 PM

Not happening. It's not that the value isn't there, it's just that the Blues have no reason whatsoever to do this. Berglund is great defensively anyway and is fine as our #2 C. He's on a great contract, and the Blues can't afford to take on much more in payroll.

Just from a money perspective, there's 0% chance of this happening. Losing Berglund and adding Plekanec/Gionta adds $7.6 million/year. That's insane. The Blues have Langenbrunner and D'Agostini as healthy scratches right now. There is no room for Gionta. They will keep their 1st rounder as well...the Blues' future depends on stockpiling draft picks and utilizing ELC's...this is just a simple no.

bleedblue1223 01-20-2013 12:27 PM

We don't have a ton of actual money, and we have no need to mess with anything.

After dominating Detroit, I wasn't expecting so many threads with us involved. A trade makes less than 0 sense for us right now.

PocketNines 01-20-2013 12:56 PM

pick will be 22-27, you say?

We looked really good last night now every one wants our players, its really not surprising. At times I wish the Blues would go back to sucking so we could avoid all of the pointless threads about them

Bluesnatic27 01-20-2013 01:41 PM

I actually like the deal, but we're just not in a position to trade right now, especially if we're getting more forwards.

But I do like the idea of Plekanec in a Blue's jersey...

Dolph Ziggler 01-20-2013 01:43 PM

Too much salary being taken on.

Also add me to the list of people not wanting to mess with anything. Matt D'Agostini and Jamie Langenbrunner couldn't crack the lineup. D'Agostini can be a top 6 winger in the right spot and Langs is still a solid player.

I do like Plekanec but I wouldn't want to pay what Montreal would ask for.

Oshie97 01-20-2013 01:52 PM

Too rich for the Blues blood, simple no as I would just rather spend that money on locking up our youngsters.

frostyflo 01-20-2013 02:06 PM

Plekanec would be a perfect Blues player, would love to have him, just way too expensive to get

no need for Gionta

so if you make a deal around Bergy for Pleks, without a player we don`t need and without our 1st rounder, I`d have a pretty hard time deciding it

Rather add to get Perron ;)

not that I`d like to trade him, but it would make sense

would allow to play Steen back on LW and we had Steener, Amac, Sobotka, Schwartz and D`Agostini on the left wing while we`re upgrading our center position

but as long as Steen plays good at center I`d rather hold onto Perron

I could have sworn that someone already did a Tarasenko proposal. :shakehead

Domino11 01-20-2013 04:42 PM

There is no way I trade pleky for berglund !! We can get more for pleky the. Just berglund ... And people be realistic no team will take 10million in salary in not sending some big salary the other side !! It a bad deal for mtl

BrimStone64 03-08-2013 11:37 AM

What could Montreal get for Plekanec?

If they were sellers, maybe, but I fail to see what's in it for the Habs, who are in a battle for first in the Eastern conference.

Some really pointless thread necromancy just to brag about the standings.

Montreal offers 0.56 PPG and $-10 Million for 0.61 PPG and $-2.25 Million, and our leading goal scorer... and the Blues are the ones having to throw in a first?

I'd be willing to talk about Plekanec and Gionta, but it's more-or-less out of a favor to Montreal to unload unproductive salary and the Blues take a risk on the new scenery helping those players.

Habsterix didn't bring the thread back, Mats did.

Habsterix just failed to notice the original post date.

Agreed. I'd also say MTL doesn't need to mess with anything ATM.

Habsrule 03-08-2013 01:22 PM

That trade is not happening from a Habs POV. The Habs are sitting on top of the Eastern Conference. No way will they take a step backwards and go with youth unless it is an offer that they can not refuse.
