Danny Briere at the trade deadline

What could Briere fetch at the deadline if the flyers are out of it?

This is assuming he waives his NMC just to not have 30 people posting he won't waive his NMC

Cap hit for the next 3 years : 6.5m
Actual salary : 7m, 3m, and 2m

Flyers could also take on some money if that helps increase his value

CraniumCram 01-21-2013 11:44 AM

D Help from Buffalo, not sure whom though.

start winnin 01-21-2013 12:04 PM

I'd take him in Buffalo for cheap! :)

Viqsi 01-21-2013 12:16 PM

...I'd be rather surprised if Buffalo took Briere back. I thought he was still persona non grata there.

Briere would be very nice to have here on the Jackets roster, but we're not about to trade any of our roster defensemen, and I worry about which prospects and how many of them would be asked for. :)

Plus, we'll have some folks to resign...
EDIT: on second thought, that may not be as much of a problem.

Darcy dun goofed trying to sign drury over him.. Bring him back to Buf

TorstenFrings 01-21-2013 12:25 PM

Depends on what your objective is. If you pick up half the cap hit, you could probably get a pretty awesome return in picks and good prospects from a contender. If you are doing it mostly to the clear cap, you`ll get lesser picks and project prospects. Just keep him and exchange him for an equally overpaid Dmen in the summer.

This ship has sailed :(

Would still like him back but his cap hit wouldn't fit.

johnny_rudeboy 01-21-2013 12:37 PM

I expect Coyotes would be interested in having him back. Dont really know how a deal could be done but think he would fit nicely with them.

Would a good D prospect + a first get it done for the coyotes?

After this season, he makes a lot less than his cap hit. Could help the phoenix staff save some money

You really want the Flyers to be wasting cap on a player no longer playing for them in a year where the cap is going to decrease?

I can't see that happening...

Next year we have 8m of space open

with pronger's money, that's almost 13m

With Briere gone and 2m retained, that's almost 18m open for a few spots to fill.

It's not that hard

McTusk 01-21-2013 01:42 PM

Flyers need that playoff beast, can't see them trading him.

He's approaching not being worth that much.

He didn't show up for most of the regular season last year. And he's pretty bad defensively and responsible for a lot of goals against.

For a team with a good D that needs a center or winger, he's a good fit.

for example; if he were traded to a team like the Coyotes, a team with STRONG defensive presence and system, his scoring could help them tremendously, especially in the playoffs, while the defensive responsibility of the rest of the team could help overshadow and make up for his lack thereof.

JDinkalage Morgoone 01-21-2013 02:26 PM

If Paul Gaustad is good enough to net a 1st last year, how is one of the best playoff performers of the 2000s not worth that and more?

captainpaxil 01-21-2013 02:29 PM

briere is a playoff beast and with multiple years left at a cheap salary (5 mil remaining after this year) im sure hes accumulated enough "groin problems" to keep him off the cap for the regular season should it be neccesarry. cap hit isnt a motivation in the deal

His wrist is hurt.

Not his groin

Vankiller Whale 01-21-2013 02:36 PM

Canucks would be interested, we could always use playoff scoring. What would you want for him?

nothing from the Cancucks i'd really want besides Cory Schneider. We're in no position to be trading Briere's cap hit for anything other than Defense really.

Buffalo would like him...but the salary cap hit could be an issue.

Pay NO mind to Krishna, I have no clue his motives for wanting to get rid of DB and can only believe he fell and hit his head. This Flyer fan and many more want him on the FLYERS.

I think he's made it fairly evident that he's concerned about the cap.

Count me among those Flyers fans who want to be rid of Danny Briere. The cap hit is too much to take for the level of production he provides.
