TUF 17: Sonnen v Jones
Dudes! No thread for TUF 17" Sonnen v JBJ?? "What up wit dat?"

Pumped for this season of TUF, can't wait to see Sonnen troll everyone, likely including his own fighters.

Begins Tuesday, Jan. 22 (tomorrow) @ 9pm ET/6pm PT on FX.

While past UFC fighters have bickered with their coaching counterparts or focused on looking after their own team members during filming of the reality TV show, Sonnen says he was on the same page with Season 17 rival Jon (Bones) Jones, the UFC light-heavyweight champion.
On the same page, really? I don't know if I can buy that one...

[Sonnen] "Dana has come out and said there's a guy in the house that everybody is terrified of. I'm not 100 per cent sure who he's talking about. I've got it narrowed down to four guys. That's how tough and brutal this tournament is."

This is a complete joke of a fight

I know.

And I'm still about to get suckered into watching a reality show I don't care about. Tuesdays are awful for TV.

OMG... nevermind, HOCKEY is back. oh. thank heaven. What a brain fart, there.

Two solid contributions there....

Sonnen via 4th round verbal knockout.

KO of his own fighter? :sarcasm:

This should be a good season. Can't wait.

End of Line 01-22-2013 07:33 PM

The production for this is different to say the least.

Gene Parmesan 01-22-2013 07:47 PM

This has a "road to the octagon" feel. I like it.

VeddarRants 01-22-2013 08:44 PM

I really like the format. Good stuff.

Feels way more professional.

They have found some pretty talented fighters. Uriah Hall has to be a favorite..he has two losses and they are to Weidman and Costa. Not bad losses.

McOilbleeder 01-23-2013 01:37 AM

I thought Clint Hester(Jones' first fighter) looked good in his first fight.

One thing I will say though, I don't like fighters picking their fight. Surprised Jones went with the whole "we've figured out who we want to fight" list his team came up with. See if it works out.

Can I restate my love for Sonnen in this thread?

Well to the UFC's credit, TUF was on life support so they brought in two guys who would bring ratings, they made it a weight class people would be interested in, and they improved the production. I don't know if it will lead to the ratings increase they're looking for, but I'm definitely looking forward to watching.

It was a much more watchable product this week. Good stuff. 2 hours is a bit long though.

Sonnen's team > Jones team.

I wonder who that guy that Dana White was talking about is out of the fighters that moved in the house. I thought it was the guy with the scar on his neck, he lookwed like a serial killer  But yeah I liked the changes they've done with the production, felt a lot more professional and had a 24/7 vibe to it.

I have a feeling it's Hester.

If Hester is the Mike Tyson looking guy, I would agree. The guy has some serious hand power and he just looks like a guy who can explode on another fighter.

The first episode was good, but I have a feeling it'll be the same BS it always is once the season starts. Doodles on the fighter portraits, "funny" pranks, food fights, drunken emo testosterone/roid meltdowns, etc.

I hope it steps up from that turdy stuff. Fingers crossed.

Captain_Cunney 01-24-2013 08:13 AM

Really solid episode with actual talent this time around. Chael's line about "it being awkward for the next 10 years training if he didn't pick his teammate first" was pure gold. Jones is still pretty immature, I think Chael will get in his head often.

Hester & Hall looked really good, same with the tall Brit. It's hard to judge with such a limited viewing, but I though Sonnens' team was much better.

I also like the last pick from new Zealand as a dark horse, was suprised he lasted so long.

ForzaZuffa 01-24-2013 05:00 PM

So, should we call the show off and hand the contract over to Uriah Hall or....... Guy is beast mode defined.

m9 01-24-2013 06:11 PM

People are really over-rating the talent. There's a reason most of these guys aren't already signed somewhere. There were a few impressive debuts but it takes more than one can-crushing to get me excited.

He's up there for sure, but I will say this, I forget the kid's name that he fought, but if Hall does end up being a top guy then the kid who lost to him is probably more deserving of a spot in the house than some of those guys because he put up a pretty decent fight and nearly took the 2nd round.
