Feel The Heat 01-22-2013 07:16 PM

Great news.

Ynnek 01-22-2013 07:29 PM

Good news indeed. Plus Hudler is back too.

tmurfin 01-22-2013 08:36 PM

Just in time to put the Oilers in check

Fleury14 01-22-2013 09:43 PM

sweet, 2/3rds of a 2nd line back

Johnny Hoxville 01-22-2013 09:59 PM

I'm actually really excited to see what he can do. I have a feeling he's going to be a player for us. Hopefully he's good to go by Saturday.

Janks 01-22-2013 10:18 PM

Excited to see how he plays on the team!

Flames92 01-22-2013 10:31 PM

Hopefully he becomes our top line center and people stop writing us off so easily, no pressure ;)

Nordberg 01-22-2013 10:39 PM

This could really go either way, he is a player for sure based on what I've seen in international competitions, but it's so hard to predict how his type of player will perform on the bigger stage. I'm hoping for a boom, and for him to be able to win some draws for us. I'm not holding my breath for the latter, but it would be nice.

Feel The Heat 01-22-2013 11:29 PM

Not sure how long he would have to be off his Blood thinners to be able start taking contact. Could be a couple of weeks before he is in the lineup.

He is medically cleared to play Saturday so it sounds like he should be fine.

This guy better be able to win a face-off. As much as I'm appreciating Backlund's new confidence, I really wish he spent the summer working on his game in the circle.

Backlund had a fo% of 45% last year and threw 2 games is at 42% that isn't terrible.

Cervenka will be in against the Oil then?

Yes, it's terrible, it's pathetic.

For comparison, Jiri Hudler has been at ~45% in 08-09 and 09-11, two seasons among his most frequent for taking faceoffs.

Hudler hasn't played center regularly since he destroyed the AHL in 2005-06, and yet he's still as good as Backlund on the dot? Dun dun dun...

Gary83* 01-23-2013 08:06 AM

What is it with these annoying detroit trolls? first tfong and now eva unit zero?

Hey guys, Flyers fan coming in peace. I'm so happy for Cervenka finally getting a shot in the NHL. As for the faceoffs, there are his stats from KHL http://en.khl.ru/players/16827/ . It seems that he didn't take as many faceoffs as a few of his teammates but his percentage is usually slightly under/above 50 percent and in the last 2 seasons went way higher. Hopefully he can keep it up.

Flames news release from last night. http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=651954

I hope we get a chance to see Both Cervenka and Hudler on Saturday.

smitty10 01-26-2013 10:28 PM

So how has he looked so far in his first game in the NHL?

He has real good hands and vision isn't overly strong on his feet but doesn't look out of place at all.

Northern Neighbour 01-26-2013 10:43 PM

His hands are quick, and he definitely has skill. He looks like he's adjusting to the pace of the game with each shift.

Good to hear! I've been following for years and was hoping he'd come over to the NHL eventually. I wish him and the Flames all the best!

Fleury14 01-28-2013 08:16 AM

Looks very opportunistic. Him and Hudler have played together before and look like they could have good chemistry once their timing gets better.
