NEW YORK -- Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn has been suspended for one game for charging New Jersey Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov in NHL Game No. 30 in New Jersey on Tuesday, January 22, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Schenn will forfeit $4,702.70. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 12:37 of the second period. No penalty was assessed on the play.

That hit was clean as ****. Called clean on the ice. Brenden Shanahan can eat a dick. Eat my balls.

Roo Mad Bro 01-23-2013 12:08 AM

Didn't catch that as I was on the way home from the sports bar.

What happened?

He crushed Volchenkov. Payback from last year. If anything it was charging but there was no penalty called.

freakydallas13 01-23-2013 12:42 AM

I opened this thinking it would have been about Schenn's fight at the end of the game. That hit seemed fine to me.

Side note, does anyone else think Nick Kypreos' twitter background is a bit narcissistic?

SchennSational1022* 01-23-2013 12:44 AM

If he gets suspended for this i will ****ing flip out. No contact to the head at all and he didnt leave his feet till after the hit. What a ****ing joke

StandingCow 01-23-2013 01:16 AM

Any youtube of the hit?

MonsterSurge 01-23-2013 01:18 AM

As someone who dislikes the Flyers and Schenn, that was a clean hit. :)

JDinkalage Morgoone 01-23-2013 01:18 AM

As soon as I saw it I thought there would be an issue. Thought it was clean but with the game the way it is today...

Beef Invictus 01-23-2013 02:13 AM

With the way this season has gone, what else do you expect?

Akanon 01-23-2013 04:01 AM

Here's a video of the hit

StandingCow 01-23-2013 04:26 AM

Watched it a couple of times, looks like he jumped into him, think we may be looking at a few games with Schenn. :/

Flyman 01-23-2013 05:05 AM

Sorry but this is a clean hit to me. Not a very clever one from Schenn who seemed to run at Volchenkov liek a bullet but still clean, technically speaking.

jimmycarter 01-23-2013 05:45 AM

two for charging and that's it. not suspension worthy.

DrinkFightFlyers 01-23-2013 05:48 AM

Tough to say on that one. Could be one of those hits where he left his feet because of the impact, or one where he actually left his feet to hit him.

JJmcD 01-23-2013 05:52 AM

I guess little brenny shanahan is getting bored and needs something to do.

s3x 01-23-2013 05:58 AM

Ha. He will likely get a game or two, but if you think his "leaving of the feet" here is any different than a vast majority of hits in the NHL, you are mistaken. Everyone makes that last second leap to allow momentum to carry through the body. And while NHL rules prohibit any leaving of the feet during a check, referees have come to terms with what is out of the ordinary when making that call. The issue here is that it's made more apparent by the length of ice covered to make the hit. Nothing more.

Krishna 01-23-2013 06:04 AM

I don't see anything wrong with the hit :dunno:

FLYguy3911 01-23-2013 06:32 AM

When I saw it live I thought for sure it was a charge and it did look like he left his feet slightly. Whether it was after contact or not I'm not sure.

RJ8812 01-23-2013 06:45 AM

Shanahan will find some reason to suspend him

4thline4life 01-23-2013 07:02 AM

So he volchenkov'd volchenkov which has been fine for how long? but he has orange and black so its now discipline worthy. This is beyond a joke. Might as well make this no check men's league if hes suspended.

This was my thought. If they want to rip him apart for leaving the ice on the check then that's a 2 minute penalty. Not a suspension or fine. Clean hit.

BringBackStevens 01-23-2013 07:11 AM

If that's suspension worthy, then there's going to be a lot of suspensions this year

RespectTheCouts 01-23-2013 07:27 AM

This is the new sweeter, cuter, and cuddly NHL it's a charge at best BUT he's a Flyer so he'll be suspended, funny how Volchenkov has been doing the same thing for years and is praised for it, the "A-Train" they call him for hits like that, but whatever Shanny is bored and hates us just like Gayr Bettman

orange is better 01-23-2013 07:33 AM

That's absurd. No way that's suspendable.
