Bummer. If my username wasn't a giveaway, I'm a big fan. I still don't think they ever came close to touching Deloused, but they never put out a bad album.

Saw them live twice and they put on a great show.

NewtJorden 01-23-2013 11:27 PM

Thats sad

hototogisu 01-24-2013 12:23 AM

Too bad because they were pretty damn original, but I never got into anything they did after Frances.

ATDI reunion coming up? Or did that already happen?

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Deantoni Parks have formed a new band with a few others, called Bosnian Rainbows.

I liked Mars Volta but nothing compares to At The Drive In. One of my favorite bands ever.

Thanks, I'll have to check that out when I get home.

BonMorrison 01-24-2013 08:56 AM

That's rough - I didn't listen to them much but I had huge respect for them. Massively talented.

Kyle Doobas 01-24-2013 09:17 AM

The first time I saw TMV was probably the best concert I've ever been to. The most recent time was good too, although the end of the night was a bit of a bummer. Some guy was going around giving away backstage passes and handed one to my attractive female friend. I asked if I could get one too and the guy said they don't give them to guys. I was like, "What are they, ****ing Van Halen now?" The guy laughed but apologized and said he couldn't give me one.

Some drunk girl at the bar ended up giving me hers, but then they refused to let me backstage on account of there always being "too many nerdy guys asking Omar about his pedals.":laugh:

Bummer, but IMO their last two albums were pretty sub-par. 11 years, 6 full length albums. Not a bad run. And agree with Mars Volchenkov, they never topped De-loused.

WeThreeKings 01-24-2013 02:34 PM

This ****ing sucks. One of my favorite bands.

My rankings of their works goes like this:
De-Loused in the Comatorium
Frances the Mute
Noctourniquet
Octahedron
Amputechture
Bedlam in Goliath.

yakitate304 01-25-2013 05:04 PM

De-Loused: one of my favorite albums ever
Frances the Mute: excellent
Bedlam in Goliath: great, although somewhat inconsistent
Octahedron: I liked it, although I can understand people being put off by the general slow nature of the album
Amputechture: not a huge fan aside from a few spots
------
Noctourniquet: I only listened to it once at a time when I couldn't really focus on the music so I can't really rate it.

deytookerjaabs 01-25-2013 05:20 PM

That's no fun, kind of mad I didn't catch a gig the last couple times they were around.

Try Noctourniquet. Vedamalady, Empty Vessels, Aegis, Imago and In Absentia are some of their best tunes.

White Plains Batman 01-25-2013 06:13 PM

They did never top De-Loused but they put out some great music over the years.

Sad to see them go but it makes sense with their aesthetic and Omar Rodriguez's personality. He seems like someone who wants to always try new things and play with different people.

DaStars99 01-25-2013 09:13 PM

L'Via L'Viaquez was awesome

There's no way they were ever going to top De-Loused. The album is a masterpiece.

One day everyone will realize that Amputechture was actually their best album. ;)

Yes

How people do not realize this is beyond me

Because Tetragammatron is the only stand out track on the album.

Day of the Baphomets drones on for far too long.
They neutered Jon Theodore.
The beginning and ending tracks are mostly drivel.

Central PA Hawk Fan 01-26-2013 12:59 PM

I mean, I like Amputechture, its a solid album filled with some really good and interesting songs, but others are stronger, and I feel TMV is stronger when they're a more concise/focused band (Deloused/Goliath) rather than the more free flow jam session band (Frances/Amputechture). IMO:

1. De-Loused in the Comatorium
2. Bedlam in Goliath
3. Frances the Mute
4. Amputechture
5. Noctourniquet
6. Octahedron

Soundgarden 01-26-2013 02:12 PM

Glad I got the chance to see them live and actually meet them afterwords. Really nice guys. I'm still excited to see where the members will come up with next. Always a treat.

Omar's lack of giving a **** annoyed the hell out of me during that set.
