Repeat my last post: What type of offer sheet would it take for Montreal to walk away from Subban?

I am guessing one that returns 4 first rounder(isn't that like 6-7Mish?)

I think they would match anything up to 6+ million. That is just a guess though. who knows what the real answer is....

Except when he can't clear the zone worth a damn unless it's over the glass and gets coned on a regular basis because he's skating the wrong way.

Devils scored so many goals against his pairing. Lost the series.

YP44 01-24-2013 09:29 AM

Sorry Montreal fans, I beleivethat if Doughty never got his pay day PK would not be looking for his.

SLAPSHOT723 01-24-2013 09:30 AM

Since it's a new thread: Niederreiter+ for Subban.

He might not be at the level of subban but I would not call MDZ garbage at all.

Has there been any leaks indicating what each side is looking for?

PlayMakers 01-24-2013 09:31 AM

I think Philly would be a good fit.

They need to rebuild their D, they have some quality young assets to trade, and a GM who's willing to make big moves.

That's because you see his pt totals and aren't aware that he's responsible for a number of goals against his team. He's like Matt Carle. Good on the stat sheet but I'd hold my breath if there was a 3on2 on him

416Leafer 01-24-2013 09:31 AM

People mentioned Niederreter + for Subban?

That's a complete joke.

More like Strome + Reinhart. Sounds steep, but you're trading for a young proven top pairing D who could become a legitimate #1 / potential future Norris contender. Montreal can throw in a lesser forward/forward prospect to balance it out.

Strome and Reinhart are both prospects at this point. Maybe both become top line material, maybe one does and the other is 3rd line material, maybe both only become second line material players. Really hard to say. But there are multiple scenarios where Montreal walks off with only a decent return, but the NYI are guaranteed a top pairing D.

Once again, no.

CaptainCally 01-24-2013 09:31 AM

MDZ + Rupp for Subban.

Rupp is included since Subban is gonna ask for more than what MDZ is currently making and Rangers need to think about the capspace.

Mashinter replaces Rupp.

D-Pairings:

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Subban
Bickel/Eminger (:help:) - Stralman

Habs offers short contract about 3-3.5 million

PK wants long term for big money.

Thats what we hear

I believe $6.7M-$8.4M is worth two 1sts, 2nd & 3rd. $8.4M+ would be worth 4 first rounders.

Would be interesting to see what Montreal would do if Subban was offered $6.5M/yr deal.

Put MDZ on the Habs and he will be -120. The guy benefits from playing against weaker opponents while Mcdonagh, Girardi and even Staal play against opponent's top lines.

I'll repeat my last offer, with a slight amendment.
:edmonton
Subban+Eller

:habs
Yakupov+Petry

Eller does not seem to be as highly regarded by the new management in MTL, and we could use center depth (and a replacement for Horcoff once he gets bought out in the summer).

I am an EDM fan, and I would do this.

Jakomyte 01-24-2013 09:36 AM

I'm in the camp that thinks PK should get a shorter term deal, but still get paid well (i.e. 2-3 years for $3.5 million-ish). I think I could also live with a reasonable longer term contract (6 years, $4-5 million). However, I do think its funny to note that before this contract issue popped up, many journalists and non-Habs fans spent a lot of time emphasizing PK's flaws or talking about personality issues, or how weak he is defensively, etc. Its just kinda funny to now see a lot of those same people saying that he is being low-balled or that the Habs need him so much, or he should be paid like a star. It will be interesting to see all these people go back to bashing/undervaluing Subban when he does finally re-sign with the Habs.

Just sayin'...

It depends on the team. A bottom feeder they take the picks, a top team and they match. IMO

I would not. If Edmonton management is really interested, attempt an offer sheet and see what happens.

MDZ + Rupp + Christian Thomas + 2nd rounder for Subban +3rd rounder.

You get a higher pick, you get a boombust prospect, MDZ good for 40+ points @ 2.5M for 2 more years and you strengthen your bottom 6.

The only reason why I wanna do this trade is that MDZ can't play the right side. So he's somewhat expendable (depending on who goes back the other direction).

Personally I think this is the best offer yet for Subban.

I think it would have to come from a team that has a reasonable hope of drafting top-10, and it has to hit the threshold for 4 1st round picks as compensation.

Obviously, the Habs match anything on the $6.7M range that only gives 1st,2nd,3rd.

The $6.7-$8.4M range at 1st-1st-2nd-3rd is maybe dubious. But you don't take that compensation for 20th overall picks.

So I'm thinking it's the over $8.4M. So that's like a deal over $42M total. Although even then, if there is a 7 year limit on RFA deals and the offer sheet is out to that 7 years, that's actually a lower cap hit than the compensation table value, so the Habs may still match.

Basically, I don't think there is any chance of an offer sheet working here. It would have to be a trade.
