Justin Gutierrez - Tri-City Americans -WHL
I havent gotten to see much from the Tri-City Americans this year, I was wondering what some of you WHL followers think of this kid Gutierrez?? Not draft eligible until 2014, and not lighting the world on fire either, but he was a stud playing tier-1 the past few years and has a solid frame and skill set...can he be a riser for the 2014 draft??
It seems my other favs Connor Rankin and Brian Williams arent tearing it up either, so is Tri-City just not scoring much as most of their top kids seem to be underperforming??
Rankin and Williams have been heating it up the last couple weeks or so. But Tri-City as a team lost two huge offensive weapons last year, so it will take time for the players to get used to top 6 minutes and PP time.
Gutierrez is playing a checking role with limited PP time and even ice time. He has great compete level, good hands, and NHL size that he will continue growing into. Would like to see him strong on his skates and be more creative with the puck, but there is a lot to like overall. I would label him in the same category with Hayden Fleury. Both players have great athleticism and potential, but both players are still trying to find their offensive game.
