Time to sit or trade Morrow

It's time for Nieuwy to turn the page. Morrow is done.

Morrow was terrible last season due to fighting through injuries, and it looks like his decision to skip surgery and use rest to heal has not worked. Morrow can't skate. He can't play. He is a net negative to the team. Continuing from last season, he produces nothing on offense, doesn't have the speed to get back on defense, and has no physical game left. The only time he shows up on the scoresheet these days is when he's taking a stupid penalty.

Morrow is getting more powerplay time than Loui, Ryder, or Roy. Why?

Gully doesn't seem to have the cajones to bench Morrow or reduce his role, so Joe has to step in. Morrow's body has broken down far too young, unfortunately. It's time to trade Morrow to clear space for the next guy up.

piqued 01-24-2013 10:22 PM

That is correct Troy.

It's a little bit like the Chris Clark situation in Washington.

I feel bad for Brenden that injuries have cut short his career, but at the same time most players don't get to play until they're 40 like Jagr and Whitney. Some bow out earlier and it's perfectly normal.

BigG44 01-24-2013 10:22 PM

I hate these threads .... but this one is spot on.

If Jagr's injury is serious enough to miss a game, and they play Morrow in the Top 6 ....

jagrgodr 01-24-2013 10:24 PM

Morrow.. the tribe has spoken

Satan 01-24-2013 10:25 PM

Yeah, I'm not sure if Captain America makes it through this season.

Either Brendan's going, Gully's going or they're both going. Please be option A.

I would very much like to see your proposal put into action, Troy.

Get Morrow off this team.

Or at the very least, off the ice for pivotal moments in any future game.

starsfan24 01-24-2013 10:32 PM

Trade his ass.

MetalGodAOD 01-24-2013 10:32 PM

Been time for 2 seasons. Get whatever you can for him.

Troy McClure 01-24-2013 10:33 PM

Does he still have a no trade?

TrillMike 01-24-2013 10:35 PM

I'm all for trading him, but what the hell is his value?

Fairly certain he does. What contender would want to take his salary and handcuff their ability to add more salary at the trade deadline?

He's stuck here. If Dallas keeps half his salary ... you might move him. Otherwise, you're waiting until April 3rd.

Troy McClure 01-24-2013 10:37 PM

With his contract, the Stars might get to find out how that new concept of trading cap space works to get a team to take him.

Should've traded him after the bloody Olympics. His value hasn't even come close to why it was then.

He's not gonna get traded but he should. The old boys club is all gone, except him.

Stars99Lobo37 01-24-2013 10:54 PM

Seriously do not understand how people still defend him (twitter/facebook/official site/etc etc). Are we just seeing something completely different than what the rest of the Stars community is or am I just crazy?

Troy McClure 01-24-2013 10:57 PM

It's the same way that people defended Modano's last season with the Stars. They're happy letting an old favorite hang around and do noting all because of how good he was years ago.

Cin 01-24-2013 10:57 PM

I would like to retract my statements from the debate in another thread. Everything I said holds zero merit now, and I fail. I am fail, and Morrow is fail.

It's OK.
We've all been there.
Before the season started, I said Wandell would break out this season and that Daley would put up big points.
:)

I wish Joe would wake up and see this problem. Morrow has been on the downgrade since he returned from his spectacular Olympic performance in 2010.

But the dude keeps finding a damn horseshoe and remains on the team as captain. Joe trades Ribeiro and Ott because of their lackluster performance to get this team to the postseason for the past four years but keeps Morrow who is also part of that problem? I just don't understand this.

DaStars99 01-24-2013 11:20 PM

I'm in, he's been terrible.

Morrow right now is far more ineffective then Modano was in his last season with us. Modano could at least still skate.

NTC and his supposed leadership, I guess.

Doesn't matter if Morrow was a pylon. There's a certain section of our fan base that worships these players that have been here since our downfall. Morrow is like the last one of those players imo.

The blindness that Stars had towards Modano, though, is on a whole different level.

I strongly disagree. Modano could skate fine, but he was so disengaged that his skating brought no value. He wouldn't ever stop on a puck. His contribution to puck battles was skating by and lazily poking one handed. Modano was treating the game like no contact pond hockey. He was terrible. If he had any other name on his jersey, he wouldn't have even been on the roster.

I barely paid attention to the details of the new CBA, but I remember this being talked about right after they signed the other one in 2005. Can someone break down in simple terms what the rules are for trading a player but keeping salary?
