Wsh - Chi, Min, NJD, Phx, SJS more

If the Caps keep on playing the way they do now, I think they'll sell on deadline and sell big. Here are the proposals. Please, don't turn it into "Will Caps play bad enough" thread. Let's just assume they will.

From WashingtonTo Washington
:hawks
  • Mike Ribeiro
:caps
  • 1st rd pick
  • Kevin Hayes
:wild
  • Marcus Johansson
:caps
  • Marco Scandella
  • 4th rd pick
:devils
  • Mathieu Perreault
  • 3rd rd pick
:caps
  • Alexander Urbom
:coyotes
  • Michal Neuvirth
:caps
  • 1st rd pick
:sharks
  • Jason Chimera
:caps
  • 2nd-3rd rd pick
:nhl
  • Roman Hamrlik
  • Tom Poti
:caps
  • 3rd-4th rd pick each
:nhl
  • Jeff Schultz
  • Jack Hillen
  • John Erskine
:caps
  • 5th-7th rd pick each

I'd call this "Operation 2014". 2014 is when Forsberg and Kuznetsov come over (Filip may come this summer, but I don't think he'll be a difference maker right off the bat, he's still very young), Wilson gets ready and our young D get Hershey seasoning. I think that will be the new beginning for the Caps.

2014 Caps roster:

3WolskiLaichWilsonOrlovWey

+ two 1st rd picks and Barber ready to jump in.

Flame away!

I think the Hawks would rather have Neuvirth over Ribero if we look at the Hawks needs.

abhanot 01-25-2013 09:02 AM

Value wise, to me, everything seems allright except the PHX trade. I don't think they would trade a 1st in a deep draft for Neuvirth.

Kris Chreider 01-25-2013 09:04 AM

Trading Scandella makes no sense for Minnesota. I'd rather trade for Orlov, Schultz, or maybe Green. I don't know what Washington's needs are though.

It doesn't, but I think I'd take that trade and run with it.

Orlov I think could be available for center prospect with the potential to become #2C in two years.
Schultz is available for basically anything.
Green... I don't think we'll trade him. We've got to have second offensive threat on the blueline.

Scandella was more of an example of young top-4 shutdown D. If anybody can give another example, I'll edit.

And sorry, I totally forgot about Orlov building 2014 Caps roster. Edited now.

Which other playoff team needs a goalie? Toronto if they keep up?

Johan Larsson? Projected as a TWF, good defense, future high end 3C. Larsson+ for Orlov? Zack Phillips is another option.

Uh...you need to look into team needs before doing things like this. The Wild are not 'stocked' on defensemen. As a matter of fact, they're a bit injury depleted. Albeit Brodin and Scandella are on their way back fairly soon. Still.

And we're overstocked on centers. They have zero reason to do this trade.

Minnesota say absolutely not.

roboninja 01-25-2013 09:30 AM

I must say, for an OP with several trade proposals you have hit the values pretty well. Might not always meet team needs, but your evaluations seem fair overall.

I'm talking about the deadline (or even draft day). It's months away. And I see MJ90 as RW at the NHL level. That's where he's been most consistent IMO.
That Wild proposal was the most doubtful for me because I don't know much about their needs. Again, if somebody has young top-4 left defensive D available, help me out.

No thanks. We have Laich and Beagle. Does Charlie Coyle play center? If yes, than I'd pull the trigger on Coyle for Orlov swap.

Is Ribiero's contract up at the end of this season? If not then this won't work for Hawks.

Raikkonen 01-25-2013 09:50 AM

all those picks for the same person who will ruin it anyway?

No offense, but all that statement is going to do is de-rail the thread.

Sevanston 01-25-2013 09:54 AM

At this point it looks like if Chicago needs to make a deadline trade, it will be for a goalie or a shutdown center.

The "Dave Bolland as 2nd line center" experiment is currently looking pretty good.

Urbom for Perrault AND a 3rd is a done deal from this Devils fan.

same here perreault was who i originally hoped for during the Arnott trade.

AfroThunder396 01-25-2013 10:13 AM

Another Devils fan who would love this deal.

ehockey 01-25-2013 10:17 AM

Ditto for Perrault :handclap:

Kris Chreider 01-25-2013 10:24 AM

Charlie Coyle is a natural center but he's been developed as a RW and will likely stay that way.

Coyle for Despres has been thrown around and TBH I like that better. Maybe Phillips+Lucia for Orlov? Phillips is a good playmaker, nice hands, decent defensively but he's stuck behind better prospects in Minnesota's system. Plays center and wing.

Phillips has been a healthy scratch in Houston, and the transition has been rough. He's got little to no value in a trade right now.

Hivemind 01-25-2013 10:28 AM

I proposed Perreault for Urbom before last season, so obviously I like that framework of a trade. But, the Caps shouldn't be the ones adding a 3rd round pick in that scenario. Especially given that Perreault raised his value last season (in games he saw top six ice time, he played at over a 50 point pace, most of which was scored at even strength).

Additionally, I see no scenario in which the Caps should trade ALL THREE of Ribeiro, Johansson, and Perreault. The 2nd line center issue has been one the Caps have faced for several seasons, and has just now been adequately filled. Yet, you want to not only trade away the 2nd line center, but both of the Caps' best internal bets for long term solutions? Awful, awful, AWFUL idea. I get that, right now, Johansson isn't producing and there's no spot for Perreault. I can understand selling at the deadline. But you don't give away ALL of your assets. You have to keep something in the cupboard. Especially if you're getting lukewarm (at best) returns for Johansson and Perreault. A draft pick in 2013 isn't going to be an ideal solution for 2C in 2014.

Zoidberg Jesus 01-25-2013 10:40 AM

I was a little nervous when I saw the title, but this is actually a pretty fair valuation of the pieces involved. Just got a few comments.

I think if Neuvirth gets moved, it's at the draft. We don't have anyone else in the system who can handle the NHL at this moment. I suppose it's possible he'd be moved at the deadline if Holtby has really staked his claim as the number one, but I'd consider it pretty unlikely. If Holtby's playing that well, I doubt we're sellers by then.

Since Scandella apparently isn't available, I wonder if Phoenix would be interested in a deal around Johansson and Gormley? Maybe with Galiev as the sweetener? This assumes we've got a 2C to make Johansson expendable.

Also, fair warning to anyone interested in Orlov - he shoots left, but plays the right side, and the organization's attempts to try him on the left side haven't been successful thus far.

D U M B A 01-25-2013 10:44 AM

Love the Wild trade, if we don't say yes, I'd be pissed at the GM. Yes, we're not stacked or overflowing with D but that's a trade that would be stupid to turn down.

txpd 01-25-2013 10:45 AM

that 2014 caps team is a loser. i hope you know that. if the idea is to purge and start over with young kids and lose for a while, then trade ovechkin first
