I'd probably like him if he wasn't so anti-European, anti-Quebec. And I'm neither of those.

I used to love his anti-European and anti-Quebec rants. They were extremely hilarious.

I grew up in a home where you could not speak during Coacher's Corner because "God was talking". I was naturally a huge fan and believed everything he said was pure gold. However, nowadays I would say I like his entertainment value and nothing more.

A real life troll. Entertaining to watch.

Exactly. Don Cherry's coaches corner persona is a shtick, and a very effective one.

He gets ratings and people make polls about him. I guess he's doing his job pretty damn well.

Love him. He's the only man on CBC.

I love Cherry.

He's entertaining to watch. He's got great chemistry with Ron MacLean and I love watching hockey night in Canada for his opinions on everything and I lobe watching Cherry and MacLean bickering with one another like an old couple :banana:

Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith do the same act, only more effectively. They also have to come up with a lot more material since they do it for an hour every weekday rather than just for 10 minutes once a week.

Like him.. always have.

I'm 37 and have grown up with the guy... just a icon.

Always interesting in hearing his take and his break down of the game or the topic du jour.

- only thing not to like - When CBC has him on location somewhere... he's not very good at faking dealing with the people well. His public front if you will, is not very natural. You can tell he's very uncomfortable with it, and it's uncomfortable to watch.

I still like him but I think a lot of what he says is ridiculous and stupid. It's just the nostalgia of growing up watching Don Cherry every weekend. I completely understand people who didn't grow up watching him thinking he's just a senile crazy old xenophobe though.

Dislike. The guy does everything for attention and I am not sure if he actually believes he is god's gift to hockey but he is far from it and is pure entertainment and has very little knowledge of TODAY's hockey world. He homers a few teams and is just a figure-head to get ratings.

A self indulged blowhard. Viewpoints that border autistic. A part of hockey the NHL could do without.

Wouldn't be missed.

It's a cultural thing... or a 'if you watched him for 20 yrs, you'd get it' thing more than anything else.

does it seem fair to say that Americans for the most part don't like him.. Canadians mostly do as a result of the above...


People's understanding of Don Cherry who don't watch CBC every weekend is tainted since their primary exposure of the guy is his most extreme/controversial youtube clips that people end up posting...

In between those are dozens of shows of just classic Don and Ron exchanges about HOCKEY.

Dislike. He is a xenophobic, sexist, idiot.

Don Cherry is not an act he's been involved on hockey his entire life he's spent 18 yrs minor pro he's won a championship in the junior level and ahl level.Yes he loves violence because he' experienced it and he's fought dozens of times.He was married to an american wife for over 50 yrs he spent 25 yrs playing and coaching in the united states.One thing that he hates is soft players you can go back to the 80's and thats what disgusts him the most.As for his anti french well he's been friends with Jean Ratelle and Guy Lafleur and they both have been to his charity involving his wife rose.Some of his closest friends are french canadian as long as there not separtists as Don always says.Don at his late age has gone to Afganistan to visit troops 3 times.Other's like Tiger Williams and Lafleur have gone several times.But other famous retired players have declined to go and we know who they are.

I don't dislike him. I nothing him.

I don't often agree with him, but I wouldn't say I don't like him. To me his rants are more like funny than serious, but I suppose I can understand why so many dislike him.

Voted neither

Say what you will about him but the guy knows hockey; how many people on the planet do you think have seen more hockey games than cherry? He follows it at every level; minor hockey, JR A and be, major junior, AHL, NHL.

I kind of wonder if his anti-french label is coming from the french canadian community? The last time he got in hot water for anti-french jokes was his infamous visor comment. Other than that, he praises Montreal quite a bit, has plenty of connections among quebec. I wonder if it' due to the separatist Quebecois claims every English canadian hates them to further their agenda (hate on me all you want but we all know they want to be hated).

Europeans; well I'm not saying it's right but I think he realizes that had Europeans been around 20 years earlier, he may not have even had an AHL career. Plus it's more of a love for Canadians IMO.

Disagree with most of his opinions, but I love Don Cherry.

I almost never think about him. I go most of the year forgetting he exists. As a character, he's kind of fun sometimes, but as an analyst, he's worthless.
