The Mesh In The New Nets Is Way Too Tight

Watching highlights, it seem the puck is literally flying out of the net after every goal. Once in a while, if the puck hits the inside crossbar, it's OK if it flies out. It used to happen from time to time and it was fine. But not on every single goal like it is this season.

Even on empty net goals, the puck comes flying out of the net almost to the blue line. It's silly. It's very distracting and sometimes you can't even tell a goal was scored.

MountainGoat 01-26-2013 07:03 PM

weird thing to complain about

and I think they make the netting tight so the puck doesn't get stuck on the out side of the net

Deen 01-26-2013 07:06 PM

I don't hear any goaltenders voicing displeasure with them. So i'm gonna say they are fine.

Garbage Goal 01-26-2013 07:08 PM

Probably the oddest thing possible to be upset about.

Bure 01-26-2013 07:10 PM

I like it.

Big McLargehuge 01-26-2013 07:14 PM

How on earth is that 'distracting'?

What do goaltenders have to do with this discussion? Are they paying to watch the games?

For 90 years, a goal meant that the puck crossed the goal line and stayed inside the net. If a puck was in the net, you knew that a goal was scored. All of a sudden, a goal now means the puck enters the net for 1/10th of a millisecond before it shoots out like a dart to the blue line. It just looks dumb.

Why even use a net if you want pucks flying everywhere? What is the point of the mesh?

KRM 01-26-2013 07:23 PM

Agree with OP.

Master Radishes 01-26-2013 07:25 PM

I also don't like the shade of red they use for the posts and crossbar. It's too distracting.

dubey 01-26-2013 07:28 PM

Anyone else dislike the metal they use in the posts? A little too metally IMO.

ReverendAlBundy 01-26-2013 07:28 PM

The blue of the crease is too flashy. Very distracting on the eyes. They need to make all ice markings various shades of gray.

Hmm, 50 or so of them, would you say?

Games would get reeeeaal interesting.

Lehner 01-26-2013 07:33 PM

WHite is boring, how about black ice and a yellow puck?

KEEROLE Vatanen 01-26-2013 07:35 PM

It's like a sling shot, someone is going to be injured because of this soon

LeeIFBB 01-26-2013 07:37 PM

OP is definitely onto something. I'd like to hear more of his opinions.

Patchey* 01-26-2013 07:55 PM

I hate the green Gatorade bottles on top of the nets the most. They're way too distracting, and sometimes when the goalie gets scored on top shelf and the water bottle goes flying. It just looks stupid watching this distracting green water bottle flying in the air like a sling shot, somebody could get hurt.

JeffMangum 01-26-2013 07:58 PM

I hate all the colors on the jerseys. should just replace them with black and grey polos.

Gregoire77 01-26-2013 08:02 PM

I agree, rippling the mesh is no longer a valid statement, go back even into the 90's and it was considerably looser, it really showed off where the puck was placed, you'd see the mesh spring out of the top corner and you knew that **** was shelfed...and now we have HD. I think it's something that should be looked into. I'm a 27 year old goalie that has played in many different arenas, and it's one of those quirky things you notice, or maybe i'm just effed

Maybe an odd thing to complain about, but I've seen much less useful topics on here..logically I think it has some merit

I Am Score* 01-26-2013 08:07 PM

Lay off guys, you look like major jerks here.

I agree with the OP it is kind of odd. My friend mentioned that even when the puck barely reaches off the ground it comes flying out.

It's not a huge deal but it obviously looks weird for those who have been watching hockey for a long time.

sayheykid 01-26-2013 08:10 PM

I say we turn the clock way back and go back to the old Art Ross B shaped frames.

Puhis 01-26-2013 08:12 PM

Actually, yesterday Datsyuk (I think) scored and the puck went under the net afterwards.

Puckstop40 01-26-2013 08:12 PM

They need NHL 13 nets
