Ansar Khan: Red Wings look to deny 5-0 Blackhawks from establishing new club record for best start

CHICAGO – The Chicago Blackhawks will try to establish a franchise record for the longest winning streak at the start of a season tonight when they host the Detroit Red Wings (7 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit).

Chicago has the best record in the NHL at 5-0. It equals the best start in club history (1971-72).

“Great team, high-octane offense,'' Red Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey said. “That's a great challenge for our defense. I think we're really looking forward to the challenge.''

The Blackhawks are averaging four goals per game, tied for third in the league. They're led by a quartet of top forwards in Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp.

“Very high-end talent, mobile defense, playing the game real fast,'' Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. “Penalty kill has been real good for them. They're going to be a tough test for sure.

GTD.. Game time descision.

DatsyukToZetterberg 01-27-2013 11:24 AM

Really hoping that the Blackhawks are really tired from last night and they come out quite flat. Hopefully we'll be able to capitalize on it, we'll also need to shut down Kane, while Howard has to have a good game.

ZDH 01-27-2013 11:55 AM

Hawks dont scare me. Have no faith in their ability to lend goats.

WingedWheel1987 01-27-2013 12:23 PM

Picked up Game Center live so I can watch this.

redwings85 01-27-2013 12:26 PM

Go Wings Go.

Hawks got lucky last night benefiting from the refs lets see what happens tonight.

Happy dance! Canada NHL Centre Ice is playing both feeds! I don't have to listen to that horrendous Chicago feed!

Guru Meditation 01-27-2013 12:41 PM

Seems like a big test for the left side of the defense, none moreso than one Mr. Kyle Quincey.

Harnessed in Slums 01-27-2013 01:20 PM

Glad we're facing them with our top three centers rather than pavs on z's wing. I hope big E is good to go.

VeGor 01-27-2013 01:23 PM

I dreamt that the score was 7:4 blackhawks... let's hope I was wrong! Go Wings! :handclap:

Redwingsfan 01-27-2013 01:29 PM

I really hope there's a good stream available for this game. Haven't been able to watch any Wings games yet. Go Wings and what not!

Goatlending... :D

Thanks for the GDT! If Big Rig can go tonight then Kindl must sit; I'll be pissed if they sit Lashoff or Huskins, both guys have been solid on D and deserve to keep playing. Go Wings!

shultzyfeelinirie20 01-27-2013 02:25 PM

If big E is back kindl im sure is the one who sits which sucks cause he never gets a consistent oppurtunity to prove himself

This. Go with

Kronwall - Lashoff
Q - E
Huskins - Smith

Kindl was brutal last game.
Lashoff and Huskins has been solid.

I would rotate Q and Kindl until one of Colo and White comes back.
Than we will probably send Lashoff back to AHL

joe89 01-27-2013 02:51 PM

I saw an interview where Babs basically praised every defender for playing their best game against the Wild, but he didn't even mention Kindl. Feels like Lashoff is in front of Kindl right now.

RedWingsNow* 01-27-2013 03:10 PM

Lashoff was exposed big time on the PK last game.
He's cost this team at least two goals in two games.

Kindl has been a mammoth disappointment since playing even semi-routine in the lineup. I will be surprised if he's still on the team after April.

You should hope he is. Ericsson is easily our best PK defensemen and he was really good down the stretch last season. I hope he's healthy and ready to go because the team needs him.

I think that says more about our other guys than it does for E. ;)

Okay, fine. I'll be extra careful in watching E when he's in next time. His tendency to chase after guys with the puck and leave his slot frustrate me to no end.

Heh. If he had three years of coddling like E got, he'd probably be even better. :handclap:
