Islanders' road trip continues against Jets
Brian Compton - NHL.com Deputy Managing Editor

TV: MSG PLUS 2, TSN-JETS

Season series: This is the first of three meetings between the teams. The Islanders won three of four against Winnipeg last season.

Big story: Isles goaltender Rick DiPietro made his first start in over a year Friday night, as he made 23 saves in a 4-2 loss to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden.

"They did a good job getting traffic in front," DiPietro told Newsday. "I thought we responded well after we were down early."

Team scope:

Islanders: New York played well for two periods Friday night and received another contribution offensively from waiver claim Keith Aucoin, as the 34-year-old tallied his second and third goals of the season to help his new club take a 2-1 midway through the second period. But Gregory Campbell erased the deficit for the Bruins less than four minutes later before Zdeno Chara and Patrice Bergeron put the game away in the third.

“It’s pretty frustrating because we played a pretty solid game and we thought it was a winnable game,” Isles defenseman Andrew MacDonald said. “Maybe we ran out of gas a little bit in the third, but we still expect a lot more.”

Jets: Winnipeg earned its second victory of the season in dramatic fashion Friday night, as they rallied after Sidney Crosby scored twice in the first period with three tallies and another in the third for a 4-2 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins in front of a raucous, capacity crowd at the MTS Centre. Jets captain Andrew Ladd gave his club a 3-2 lead late in the second and Blake Wheeler added an empty-net tally with 1:08 remaining in regulation to seal the deal.

“When you're at home you start getting the crowd behind you and it becomes an extra player for you, coach Claude Noel said. “They were right into the game.”

Who’s hot: Isles winger Michael Grabner leads his team with five points (three goals, two assists) through four games, while Aucoin is 3-1-4 and John Tavares has four assists. … Through its first four contests, Winnipeg’s top two scorers are defenseman – Dustin Byfuglien has two goals and three assists, while Tobias Enstrom has five assists.

Injury report: New York will be without forwards Josh Bailey (knee) and Jesse Joensuu (groin) and defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky (suspended by team). … Winnipeg defenseman Zach Bogosian (wrist) and forward Antti Miettinen (upper body) are on injured reserve.

M Moulson Ale 01-27-2013 11:37 AM

Butch Goring 01-27-2013 11:38 AM

Call me concerned when LAW is a no show on GDT's, particularly after pumping out his Mona Lisa in the last one.

10MM, can you at least say if he is ok?

In your opinion, when a goalie faces their old team is it advantage goalie for knowing the teams tendencies or advantage team for knowing the goalies tendencies?

I would think its advantage islanders in tonight's situation vs Montoya...

I'm going to wait until game time to see if Hickey does play. Last time he was 'likely', he didn't make it into the game. It would to be nice for him to make his debut in Winnipeg, he is a Western Canadian kid, right?

Tavaresfan91 01-27-2013 12:02 PM

Where's law been?

Lambda 01-27-2013 12:05 PM

what's up with Boulton in for Cizikas?

Is Radek Martinek nursing some injury?

Why hasn't he gotten in a game yet?

Finally Finley is out thank god.. Lets go Islanders!

19NYSports91 01-27-2013 12:15 PM

I think it will be a good game tn, 3-2 Isles.

Obviously we have a quota for useless bums that can only stand and swing.

Finley out.... insert Boulton. Quota met.

MichaelK 01-27-2013 12:27 PM

If Boulton is going to replace anyone on the 4th line I would rather it be Reasoner. Let Cizikas center Martin and Boulton
We are 0-1 when Law does not do the GDT - BRING BACK LAW!

Knish Of The Crease 01-27-2013 12:28 PM
