Devin Setoguchi

He seems like a perfect guy to put with Ribeiro, or with Backstrom, or opposite of Ovechkin. What would the Wild be looking for?

Minnesota 01-27-2013 06:56 PM

Simon Despres. :sarcasm:

Jarick 01-27-2013 08:52 PM

A top four, experienced defenseman. Not an elite guy obviously, but a guy who's a solid top four man.

Iowa Wingsfan 01-27-2013 09:07 PM

Besides Kronwall and Smith anyone from the Wings. Detroit would add to even out.

Tedenby+ Volchenkov+3rd

Henrik ****ing Tallinder.

Tedenby and Tallinder for Setoguchi and a conditional based on Tedenby's GP and/or points.

TheMobGoesWild 01-27-2013 10:04 PM

If the Wild opt to shop him I'd imagine they'd seek out an experienced Top 4 Defenseman.

I'd do this if it didn't put us over the contract limit. Why not?

Contract limit is a problem?

Just give us some AHL forward then. We could use one of those.

I'd prefer Tallinder there instead of Volchenkov personally, and Tallinder is better than Volchenkov, but is redundant with the similar players on the Devils.

Liles and setoguchi have been in the same points range for the last three seasons so I don't think this is the right value going to TOR

Yes because point production is the only thing worth looking at in a trade.

I've watched plenty of Minny games and it seems like Setoguchi has been terrible since the middle of last season. What's the deal?

I agree with your sarcasm but in this scenario we are comparing a d- man and a forward who are both valued for their point production.

Neither of these players strong suits is their defensive game.

IMO (and a few others), it's because he's being relied upon as the primary goal scorer of whichever line he's on. He seemed to excel as the 2nd option rather than the 1st. Also, he doesn't have Thornton and Marleau gift wrapping passes to him.

What he said.

The guy is solid, not spectacular, but will definitely give you good minutes.

Well right now no one but the 1st line can score for the Wild. Seto has looked much better so far this year compared to last. He's throwing his body around way more. He just needs someone who can set him up, and right now Granlund isn't doing that.

It doesn't look like he could finish even if he did. He either shoots it wide, or shoots it right at the goalie.

Great shot, great wheels...no hands, no hockey IQ. Needs an elite playmaker to feed him the puck, can't create chances on his own. On the plus side, he's playing more physical this year.

SCinSJ 01-28-2013 03:30 PM

Seems like Seto would be a perfect fit in Pitt...

This. The only reason why he's been great in San Jose in the first season is because he had Thornton and Marleau providing him chances, which was a hot line of its time, but was promptly bumped down in favour of other forwards due to inconsistency.

Considering he's a complementary piece, he could be at his best in Pittsburgh, where he has Crosby or Malkin feeding him the puck.

Jeff Schultz and a second? :sarcasm:

Justin Braun.

Yeo wants to see how Devin Setoguchi and Mikael Granlund plays on the fourth line tonight with Zenon Konopka, who joked that those two “won the lottery.”

This is kind of a message [to Setoguchi and Granlund] and let’s see how they react,” Yeo said. “We want to see them have a good night.”

http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/189702401.html

Granlund can be sent down to the AHL but Setoguchi, at that $3M cap hit, will eventually need to be traded if he doesn't react positively to the "message."
