The Brendan Gallagher thread

I looked over ten pages and couldn't find his name in a title. It's understandable that Alex Galchenyuk has ten threads worth of talk but what about Gally #1/Gally73 after scoring his first goal of his NHL career?

This kid is an absolute delight to watch. If he was three inches taller, he'd be a Top 10 draft pick. He has everything you want in a player. Heck, even more than that. He never feels like he's too small to play. He just keeps working and never stops. The kid is full energy with a golden smile. Canadiens fans are always so apprehensive about shorter players due to the Smurf reputation but this kid is going to be a regular in the Canadiens top six for many, many years to come. Even better if he always plays with "The Other Galy".

Welcome to Montreal, Gallagher! You've earned it! :handclap:

This kid if going to make a lot of enemies in his NHL career.

And I love it.

He reminds me a lot of a young Mike Cammalleri but with a lot more fire in his pistons.

One Glove Gallagher!

Congrats to Gallagher to score and on Brodeur no less. He must feel really good right now.

Got to admit, that play was mostly GalcheNuke's doing. Though, I'll give credit where it's due. Gallagher also read the play well, just like his linesmate, and was able to keep up. He shot and scored, as he had to. He did a great job.

Otherwise, I'm liking this kid. He's not a big body. But he plays like he has one. He's driving the net, competing along the boards and even dished a few good body checks. I'm really liking this kid. He's got talent and is fun to watch.

Welcome to the Club Gallagher! Hope he keeps this pace up.

I know this is the Gallagher thread, but I really don't think that Nuke is a bad nickname for AGally. Well done.

I think we are witnessing the Habs future right now. Galchenyuk-Gallagher reminds me alot of Lecavalier-St.Louis 10 years ago.

DAChampion 01-28-2013 12:32 AM

Brenden Gallagher has exceeded all my expectations.

I certainly didn't think he would be useful in the NHL as early as 2012-2013.

If I had guessed, I would have said a fringe shot at call-up duty as soon as late 2013-2014.

His performance is not a fluke, he had 20 points in 36 games on a very bad bulldogs team in a stacked AHL.

Thanks! :) Yea, I kind of came up with it today. My buddies and I were watching the game on RDS. And the commentators kept saying the ending of Kovalchuk and Galchenyuk in different ways. Kovalchuk's ending sounding kind of like the "uke" in nuke. So yea... Used that pronunciation to come up with GalcheNuke. :D

I love him. He was in Devil's faces all night, with his huge smile no less. He also ran over a Devil, it was quite impressive

Don't remember who he ran over, but he was quite taller than Gallagher. Then again, most players are taller than Gallagher. Was still an impressive scene.

And in typical Gallagher fashion, he took the puck and went to the net.

He's like a homing device when it comes to the net. Watching Giants videos, he rarely takes a shot from afar. He's always finding ways to get that puck onto the net come hell or high water.

Gallagher is a huge reason why if Montreal makes a deal any time soon, I don't want a forward to come back (unless we're giving up a forward currently on the roster). He deserves this half season. I just know he's going to have a great season up.

Habs13 01-28-2013 01:03 AM

i thought his small stature would limit him in the NHL, so far, I've been wrong. Well done, Gallagher!

Forsead 01-28-2013 01:13 AM

Huge steal in the draft ! thanks to Trevor Timmins and his team.

GallySquared 01-28-2013 01:14 AM

I hope I don't violate any rules in posting this, if I do, I apologize.
I started a BGally facebook fan page, if anyone's interested.

I've adored the kid since his first training camp. I think he's quite the little 'pain in the tush' that every team needs. His smile is infectious and his tenacity is something else.
I am so happy he's getting his chance :)

dackelljuneaubulis02 01-28-2013 02:07 AM

i'm surprised at how not small he looks out there and not just because of his style of play. I think he bulked up quite a bit this year. He looks plenty bigger than Gionta and DD out there.

I'm shocked at how good he's been. he's a player that keeps surprising me every time I watch at how good he is like he's too good to be true. His incredible motor and instincts make up for the fact that he's not extremely skilled or extremely fast but so far he's surprised me on both of those fronts. Faster and more skilled than I thought he'd be.

MasterDecoy 01-28-2013 02:14 AM

i know it's always a crapshoot when it comes to smaller players in the NHL, but anybody that watched gally play in the WHL, and camp last year, just knew this guy would make it.

Prust said to him to not be scared to crash the net and hit anyone he feels too, that he would be there backing him up

Good to hear, though if Montreal didn't have a Prust, Gallagher wouldn't change his game. He's a lot like a forward version of Subban.

Oh man! Just reading that is amazing. What a teammate!

I ****ing love this kid. Great head on his shoulders, very down-to-earth kind of guy.

His play is solid. He's always in your face, his speed is NHL calibre - kid has wheels - and he has a good enough shot to beat goaltenders at the NHL level. Plus, with Galchenyuk feeding him pucks, it's a sight we'll have to get used to in the near future. I really, really hope Therrien keeps Galchenyuk and Gallagher together, and with Prust on the other wing. They all click well and with Prust, they can play their game without worrying.

Heart-warming to see youth on this team not only having a great time, but helping the team win as well. When Gallagher scored and turned to Galchenyuk, with excitement in his face, it left me speechless.

I know it was pre season but you saw that from him since last year's pre season that size wasn't going to matter with him, he has great hands, solid shot and the nose for the net. It won't bother him going forward, a better Brad Marchand is I can compare him to other players

Kjell Dahlin 01-28-2013 07:48 AM

This team looks faster with him in the lineup. I am a huge fan.

SenzZen 01-28-2013 09:28 AM

Congrats on the first goal! Many more to come.

Kid's a gamer.

Jigger77 01-28-2013 09:33 AM

I had a feeling he'd turn a few heads. I watched a few Hamilton games during the lockout and he struck me as their best player.

He's small, but he's always driving the middle and in the thick of things. Always in the goalie's face. He's an insatiable worker with crazy speed and he can finish. Fun player to watch.
