Clarke MacArthur — believed to be suffering from a lacerated finger — did not skate Monday as the Toronto Maple Leafs resumed practising after taking Sunday off.

Defenceman Jake Gardiner — called up from the Marlies — did skate.

James van Riemsdyk took MacArthur’s spot on the top line with Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel as the Leafs prepared for Tuesday night’s game in Buffalo.

Jay McClement took over second-line duties with Mikhail Grabovski and Nikolai Kulemin.

The only line that remained in tact was the third line, centred by Nazem Kadri, with Matt Frattin and Leo Komarov.

MacArthur had taken Joffrey Lupul’s spot on the top line. Lupul is out with a broken forearm. The Leafs are 5-10-3 without Lupul in starting lineup, going back to last year.

Mackinnon!

Doshy 01-28-2013 12:03 PM

Is he gonna miss the game or not?

A lacerated finger is enough to keep a player out? It must be pretty bad then.

Clarke MacArthur was not on the ice Monday for the Toronto Maple Leafs practice at the MasterCard Centre casting a shadow on the forward’s availability for the team’s next game Tuesday night in Buffalo against the Sabres.

MacArthur suffered a lacerated finger during Saturday’s 5-2 setback in New York against the Rangers.

Good riddance!

p.l.f. 01-28-2013 12:09 PM

jvr bozak kessel
mcclement grabovsky kulemin
frattin kadri komarov

does grabovsky know he's on a checking line now ?

Corleone 01-28-2013 12:09 PM

Maybe JVR can mop up some of Kessel's shots.

Brewsky 01-28-2013 12:09 PM

MacKinnon, what number would you like to wear ol' dear boy.

Epictetus 01-28-2013 12:09 PM

Leafs should re-sign him now. They already have a fetish towards signing injury-prone players who do not play more than 70 games since 2008 to long-term contracts.

He even has an 'A' too!

Make it happen, Brother Burke!

FlareKnight 01-28-2013 12:10 PM

Sucks for MacArthur, but certainly could be worse.

Drew311 01-28-2013 12:13 PM

MacArthur always looks lost on the top line, and doesn't seem to have any chemistry with Kessel. Not really a huge loss.

16! :sarcasm:

I wonder how on earth MacArthur got hurt, he's usually so careful on the ice...

Anth93 01-28-2013 12:15 PM

With all due respect to Clarke Macarthur.. Good. He doesn't deserve to be playing with Kessel at all.

IBLEAF 01-28-2013 12:18 PM

I like Mac in all,but this is'nt a big loss imo.Play frasher up front1!!!!!park your ass in front of the goalie and dont move!!!!

Better yet, face the goalie and wave your stick in front of him.

GordieHoweHatTrick 01-28-2013 12:21 PM

I wonder if guys ever try and use their mouth to throw goalies off their game. Park yourself in front of the net and start cracking yo mama jokes

NigelTufnel 01-28-2013 12:25 PM

Not sure I'm a fan of those lines.

But I guess if JVR and Kessel can click it could be good.

JVR being paired up with Kessel is what made me excited for the Schenn trade.

Hope they can click and get their offence really going.

Drew311 01-28-2013 12:37 PM

I'd like to see if the demotion has lit a fire under Connolly's ass. Call him up, throw him on the Grabovski line and see what happens. He was one of the better Leafs forwards in the first 20 games last season. If he's motivated, he can be a really good player.

DaveT83* 01-28-2013 12:44 PM

Good Riddance.

Call up D'Amigo - or someone that doesn't know any better not to try - Any scrub will do

reggietfc 01-28-2013 12:46 PM

Meh...who cares...time to sign him to 5 yr 25 mil contract.
