Erik Johnson

Seeing as it's been almost 2 years since he was traded to the Avs, I'm curious to see how Av's fans value him. Is his value higher or lower now as compared to when they traded for him? What would fans want in return for him today?

CoachBadkitten 01-28-2013 11:48 AM

Because he is our only good D-man. His value is super high to us.

Avs44 01-28-2013 11:49 AM

Cannot trade him. We would have the worst D in the league without him. Literally untouchable.

cgf 01-28-2013 11:52 AM

I can't imagine a trade that gets him out of colorado that any team would offer. It'd basically take a better young defensemen coming back, which makes no sense from the other team's perspective. He's our only defenseman who should even be in a team's top 3, our only offensively capable dman, and by far our best defensive dman. Plus the kid is young, signed to a great contract and is awesome off the ice. I don't know which of him, Landy, and Varly have the most value to the avs right now, but there's not a realistic trade out there for any of them.

TheMobGoesWild 01-28-2013 11:54 AM

I believe the front office considers him a cornerstone to the team going forward. Unless the team opts to rebuild again and dismantle 95% of the team he's untouchable in their eyes.

MrFunnyWobbl 01-28-2013 11:56 AM

Untouchable

Jurky 01-28-2013 11:58 AM

Alright, let me pose another question. Would you reverse the trade if you could? Get back Shattenkirk, Stewart and the 2nd (Ty Rattie)

Blues wouldn't. From what I've gathered, Avs wouldn't either.
Definitely a win-win

Yep.

I can't imagine our D without EJ. :help:

I wouldn't. I've been satisfied with EJ, McClement served well in his role for the 100 or so games in Denver, and Duncan Siemens looks very promising.

No, although Shattenkirk is so good.

Turrican* 01-28-2013 12:08 PM

I'd give Peckham, Potter and a 2nd

OriginJM 01-28-2013 12:11 PM

on any other team EJ is probably a solid 2nd pairing defensemen

his value isn't relative to the rest of the defensemen on the same team, it is just like anyone else... league wide.

he's not worth nothing, but he sure isn't worth a lot

cgf 01-28-2013 12:16 PM

Actually his value is whatever the hell the teams involved in a trade for him would see his value as, and EJ's value is huge to the Avs, and since they have to be one of the teams involved in an EJ trade his value is pretty damn high.

Not at all, love this trade, but I would probably offer Elliott than Shattenkirk (not talking about offensive here, I think Shattenkirk will be a bit better defensively).

No player in the league is "untouchable", but EJ (for us) is as close to the word of untouchable.

Lonewolfe2015 01-28-2013 12:50 PM

Sucks we lost McClement, but that trade still made the Avs a better team. It's probably going to hurt worse if Stewie keeps continuing his rebound.

Too late to say it, but people claiming EJ is a 2nd pairing defender need not enter in here and preach about it.

Nope. Its sucks to lose Shattenkirk, and possible Stewart depending on how he plays, but the Avs need EJ. I think both teams are happy with that trade.

What is the opposite of smart? Because that is what this whole post is.

opposite of smart is overvaluing a 1st overall pick that plays like a 3rd rounder

sorry i thought this was a valuing thread, not a blind analysis party

We don't care if he was the 1st pick or the last pick, he's playing like a true top pairing defender and even a blind person would take notice of that.

Might want to WATCH some games instead of spewing a bunch of garbage because it's CLEARLY obvious that you haven't watched him AT ALL.

And by the way, if you want to sound SMART, you might not want to use terms like "plays like a 3rd rounder" because guys like JAMIE BENN, drafted in the FIFTH ROUND get pissed off when you do that.

BlueDream 01-28-2013 01:56 PM

It's kinda hard to believe that trade was 2 years ago. I guess with the condensed season and what not it just seems like it has been shorter.

Its gonna be awesome in a years time when EJ is actually known to be a good Dman league wide.

You should watch him play this year, he's certainly playing like a #1 so far.

NYjetsTOleafs 01-28-2013 02:05 PM

I'd kill for Erik Johnson on the leafs.....
like veryone else stated he is the avs best dman next to him is probably Zanon for the dfd

Supply and demand suggest otherwise.
