JETS (3-1-1) at CANADIENS (3-1-0)

Neither the Montreal Canadiens nor Winnipeg Jets got off to an ideal start, but both seemed to have put that behind them.

Montreal hosts Winnipeg as both teams seek a fourth straight victory Tuesday night.

Since dropping their opener 2-1 to Toronto, the Canadiens (3-1-0) have scored four goals in each of their three straight victories, including a 4-3 overtime win over New Jersey on Sunday.

Andrei Markov scored the winner on a power play for Montreal, which also has earned 4-1 victories over Florida and Washington during its streak.

"It was a good measuring stick for us," coach Michel Therrien said. "We showed a lot of resilience."

Brandon Prust, who signed a four-year, $10 million free-agent contract in the offseason, netted his first goal as a Canadien playing on a line with two rookies.

Brendan Gallagher scored his first NHL goal, and 18-year-old Alex Galchenyuk assisted on each of his linemates' goals. The trio has combined for three goals and four assists this season.

"They're fast guys, really speedy, so we're always moving pucks quickly and supporting each other," Prust told the team's official website. "We're talking out there and communicating a lot and I think that's been the key to our success. They're smart and they've been great so far.

"We've got to keep doing the same thing - keeping it simple out there, moving pucks and hunting down pucks."

Montreal, which played its first game without Max Pacioretty after he had an appendectomy procedure that will keep him out at least three weeks, has won five of the last six meetings against Winnipeg, with Carey Price posting a 1.67 goals-against average in that stretch.

It's unclear if Price, who has a 1.73 GAA while starting each game this season, will be in net Tuesday, though.

Lately, no goaltender has slowed down the Jets, who came from behind to beat the New York Islanders 5-4 in overtime Sunday. Evander Kane scored the winner for Winnipeg (3-1-1), which won for the third straight time after beginning the season with a pair of defeats.

The Jets have scored 13 goals during their streak after netting one in each of their first two contests.

They trailed 4-2 with less than eight minutes remaining in the third period, but Dustin Byfuglien scored his third goal and Alex Burmistrov scored the equalizer just over a minute later.

"It wasn't a Picasso, that's for sure," coach Claude Noel said. "You're going to have those nights and I think what you have to do is you kind of have to try to get a grip on things."

Blake Wheeler added an assist to give him three to go along with two goals during the streak after going without a point in the losses. He had three goals and two assists in four meetings with Montreal last season, including a pair of goals in a 4-0 win Dec. 22, 2011.

Ondrej Pavelec made 27 saves in that contest, but he's 1-4-0 with a 3.38 GAA in his last five starts versus the Canadiens. Pavelec, who is 0-3-0 with a 4.01 GAA in Montreal during that stretch, had a 2.21 GAA while starting Winnipeg's first four games.

He could be back in net Tuesday after Al Montoya made 21 saves Sunday.

Montreal could have defenseman P.K. Subban on the ice after he signed a two-year contract Monday. Subban, who led the team in ice time per game last season at 24 minutes, 18 seconds, did not attend training camp and missed the first four games while negotiating with the Canadiens.
Preview Taken From Here.

Sorry the theme has been outdated with the Subban signing but didn't have time to do another.

GO JETS GO:handclap:

Johnny HFBOARDS 01-29-2013 12:10 AM

To bad PK Suban isn't playing, he's good for 2 dumb penalties a game.

Klaus 01-29-2013 12:14 AM

 Nicely done Gnova!

Go Jets go!! Gonna be stuck at work again for this one. :(

Tdoe42 01-29-2013 12:14 AM

Ladd with 2 pims is nice to see!!

Lynk 01-29-2013 12:15 AM

Well done Gnova, I think they may start calling you CasaGnova after this one.

I certainly will not as that's not my deal, but I can see others following in line.

Unless of course the G is not silent in which case disregard this entire post.

I was looking at the Jets' schedule for the rest of the week, and if they can keep winning until Friday, they can really start being the masters of their own fate. To keep up with the Lightning in the standings and overtake them with a win on Friday would be epic.

garret9 01-29-2013 01:04 AM

No stats on PK so my information is old too... too bad; it looks like we could have appreciated him gone. Paco's injury reall changed the lines usages as they moved a tough mins guy (Eller) to the first line.

Line RelQoC OZS CorsiRel CorsiOn P/60 OnIceSh%
1st line 0.778 48.7 00.4 05.21 00.00 03.42
2nd line 0.198 47.3 04.9 05.58 04.78 09.65
3rd line 0.051 58.2 -27.7 -19.72 11.72 17.76
4th line -1.159 51.5 -02.7 00.11 03.74 11.20
1st pair -1.325 50.8 16.3 12.35 00.91 10.35
2nd pair 2.127 50.1 -22.5 -12.71 03.31 11.82
3rd pair -1.507 54.4 10.6 06.08 01.12 09.13
Most of their lines have stayed positive possession wise. Their first line has been struck by terrible luck with no points for the 3 at 5v5, while the other 3 lines have had lots of luck. Their third line has been brutally outchanced for the soft minutes it's received, but scores a lot so looks like all offence third line... some of that offence has been luck.
Without PK, Gorges (on second pair) has been hurting. Taking all the tough match-ups and getting beaten up... Think Hainsey without Bogosian and you get it.

NAME RelQoC OZS CorsiRel CorsiOn P/60 OnIceSh%
KJWh 0.565 50.7 05.1 -01.31 4.83 6.13
LAL 3.427 54.1 -00.7 -10.20 4.19 6.10
PBW -0.172 51.6 25.0 13.84 3.38 6.92
WST -0.423 38.2 -17.8 -20.39 4.01 6.35
En-Bu 2.273 45.6 16.9 05.23 3.05 6.70
St-Ha 1.754 40.8 -32.0 -25.35 0.00 8.11
Cl-Po -2.080 68.3 16.0 07.33 1.06 3.58
KJWh has been offensively effective, while receiving similar treatment as LLW did last season. Their possession isn't stalwart - as it's slightly in the red - but we have had 3/5 games against top possession teams (Pits, Ott, and Bos are currently 2, 3, and 4 in the East).
LAL is facing some seriously tough minutes and they are in the red. I'm going to give them the same excuse as KJWh plus the ridiculously high match-ups... good last game the offence really appeared for this line at even strength as they are scoring almost at similar rates as KJWh.
PBW is another line that found it's offence yesterday. You may notice that all 4 forward lines have similar scoring rates, and all 4 have pretty low OnIceSh% which means we've been scoring less often than what we "should" be (thanks Nabakov and Anderson!). The third line's possession has stayed in the black all season, no matter it's make up, and most likely will stay like that with Poni-Burmi there. I would like Noel to put a bit of pressure off of LAL and put it onto PBW, but hey a win's a win... may be due to a lot of our games being nail bitters and so really running his top6.
WST is a 4th line. They're for energy and if you're going to get beat make it the guys that have the least icetime to minimize the effect. Plus it's tough to win when you get pushed into the Dzone that much.
En-Bu has had their possession tumble after last game with Enstrom having a rough game, but they remain in the black even with tough match-ups and no OZone push. Gotta love that offense too.
St-Ha has gotten a rough ride: more 5v5 TOI than some 1st pairs, tough match-ups due to sheltering the **** out of the 3rd pair, and tough OZS... It amazes me that Hainsey's only been on the ice for one goal. Remember that Corsi includes blocked shots, so this pairs Fenwick (which doesn't include blocked shots and they've blocked a lot) is a lot better.
Cl-Po have moved to positive possession after the last game, less due to skill and more due to Noel sheltering the crap out of these two... Bogosian please return. (Actually Postma has been positive since Washington... so we know the weaker link).

Keys to the game:
*stay the hell out of the box... they've been hot on the PP
*hope Price regresses to career %s while Pavelec stays above
*hope that third line move to normal sh%, their first line doesn't, and all 4 of ours does

Reed Solomon 01-29-2013 02:15 AM

Hope to see another win. We need that southeast division banner more than Montreal needs another Stanley Cup.

Gnova 01-29-2013 02:20 AM

I guess no one found PK yet

Anyways... Go Jets go.

4-2 Jets.

Yeah, it's actually short for Gnovakane with the G silent.
It's kinda ridiculous how people end up with strange tags because of gaming.

YWGinYYZ 01-29-2013 03:11 AM

Nice GDT Gnova! :handclap: I can see why you were upset by the PK signing. ;)

Go :jets Go!

Was in process of making a long clip, but to tired to finish :(
Here's a sample...

CorgisPer60 01-29-2013 04:49 AM

Fixed it for ya.

GJF 01-29-2013 04:53 AM

my last prediction vs. NYI was

Jets 5
Islanders 2

Kane (2), Poni, Buff, Jokinen
After 2 correctly predicted games before, I had the amount of goals for the Jets right and Kan, Poni and Buff all three scoring a goal.

Let's see if I can stay hot:

Jets 3
Montreal 1

Antropov, Wheeler, Wright

King Woodballs 01-29-2013 05:47 AM

great job Gnova!

Should be a good game tonight.
Both teams are playing well at the moment.

Lets hope we dont make that bum Eller look like an all star again

Mungman 01-29-2013 06:24 AM

I thought I had heard last night that PK wasn't playing tonight in spite of having signed, is that correct?

KingBogo 01-29-2013 06:28 AM

They mentioned the Free Press that he would be joining the Habs in Ottawa tomorrow.

Soble 01-29-2013 06:29 AM

Props to Gnova!! :handclap:

I was at the nightmare Eller-looking-like-Gretzky game, not too much fun.

Quickly checked Rogers Centre Ice this morn (Ontario) before leaving for work and the game was not listed. Too early to panic??? I've heard others have had issues with Montreal games (Sunday's game vs Devils was just the Devils feed in SD). They'd better show the TSN Jets feed like always or I'll be  and

RonJon 01-29-2013 06:44 AM

Great job Gnova, I thought I found PK but after cleaning my computer screen he disappeared  Go Jets Go

bigplay41* 01-29-2013 08:00 AM

Good job Gnova. Last year we struggled on the road in Montreal hopefully that changes

HannuJ 01-29-2013 08:32 AM

um, a win may put the Jets end in the East.
Just saying...

HannuJ 01-29-2013 08:35 AM

by the way, while very off topic, it is worth the post.

if you're not following Turbozone on twitter, you're missing out.

Hopefully we won't need any novocain to deaden the pain after this one!
I predict an OT goal from Wheeler for the win. 4-3 Jets!
