Pittsburgh - Edmonton

Owing to the need for Edmonton to get a non-crappy puck mover to play 2nd or 3rd pair minutes and Pittsburgh to get a skilled winger to fill their top-6.

To Pittsburgh: Ales Hemsky

To Edmonton: Matt Niskanen

just straight up.

Le Magnifique 66 01-29-2013 01:40 PM

No thanks, Niskanen has been our best D after Letang since last season, we pick up Hemsky and create and even bigger hole on D

TorstenFrings 01-29-2013 01:42 PM

No. Personally I would consider trading Niskanen, but I am against the idea if trading for Hemsky. Outcomes the same for me in this thread though.

OCPenguin 01-29-2013 01:45 PM

Same recycled name coming to Pittsburgh. No originality at all. It's not rocket science here or on Hockeybuzz that there is a collective NO from Pittsburgh and its fans for Ales Hemsky. Trading Niskanen for Hemsky makes as much sense as someone moving from the Hamptons to Mogidiishu.

Walter Kovacs 01-29-2013 01:59 PM

As much as the Oil could use Niskanen they dont need him and i doubt Pitt is interested in Hemsky even though he has looked good playing with Yak and Gagner in the first 5 games, he needs to show he can stay healthy before anyone shows any real intrest in him again and if he is healthy id like to see what he can do with the young guns before we trade him.

Anderson55 01-29-2013 02:26 PM

Niskanen is out 2-4weeks, so lets see how the team plays. Id rather a more physical top6 guy but hemsky aint bad

I'd do it. Can't speak for the rest of the Pens' fan base.

even if i like the value here, i don't want the Pens anywhere near Hemsky. on a team that has been plagued by the injury bug for the last handful of seasons, trading for one of the most injury-prone top-6 wingers out there in the NHL today isn't a good idea.

I wouldn't trade any valuable D prospect for Hemsky. Not a chance.

I think you can figure out what the rest of the fan base thinks regarding Hemsky. No one wants him.

So what do you think a fair return for Hemsky is? One "less-than-valuable" prospect? Come on...

I wouldn't, especially not the way Harrington has been playing these past 2 years. Kid is going to be in our lineup for years. Hemsky is way too risky and the Pens need a forward long term a la Neal, not short term

I don't blame a Pens fan for not wanting Hemsky, but I nonetheless thinks that our fan base under rates him. He's a creative, talented guy and I personally think he has a lot left in the tank. The question mark is whether he can put his injuries behind him. I somehow think that marquee guys (Perry, Ryan, etc.) that Pens fans are dreaming about won't come to fruition, so of the "second tier" guys, I like Hemsky a lot more than I like a lot of other reclamation projects. Just my $0.02.

It keeps getting recycled because it makes sense. Pitt fans always say that they need a top 6 Winger, and Hemsky doesn't fit into the long term plans in Edm according to most fans. If Yak and Hall were both 6'3, 215lbs; Hemsky wouldn't be as heavily shopped around in proposals on here.

Fact is, Pitt has D prospects that actually fill what Edm is lacking in their D prospects, and Hemsky fills a need as a top 6 winger in Pitt. If he can stay healthy, which he looks to be right now, he's a great fit on a line with Malkin IMO.

See, he is just named in a thread about Hemsky, and he gets hurt. :sarcasm:

Paajarvi for Despres

Homesick 01-29-2013 04:19 PM

I think the Oilers are quite content to stick with their soft, one way, injury prone, overpaid playmaking winger(did I cover all the troll comments?) The Oilers top 6 has been the only thing providing any offense.
It won't help the Oilers to add yet another number 4 defenseman. Smid, Petry, and the Schultz's have been doing just fine.

Any reason besides Eastern European-ess that it would have to be Malkin?

No. Paajarvi will develop into a good checking player while Despres and Klefbom are similar.

As for the first proposal.. it leaves a gap in our top 6 and a jam of defenseman. Makes no sense.

only way we'd trade Despres is for immediate help and Paajarvi definitely isn't that.

How so? He can play anywhere in your lineup at LW or RW. He's been fantastic so far playing 3rd and 4th line roles for us. His offense will come when he gets offensive linemates to play with, but since that's not what we're asking for from him he's not producing.

He will be one of the better two way wingers in the game if he finds his offense. He's far ahead of Tangradi right now and will only get better.

Absolutely hate to move Harrington... but would probably do it. There'd likely be a conditional pick in there coming back if Hemsky can't/doesn't play a good chunk of games.

lakai17 01-29-2013 05:29 PM

I want Morrow or Despres coming back.
