Ryan O'Rielly to Montreal

What would Montreal have to give up? Would both sides be interested?

canadianeh 01-30-2013 10:14 AM

Makes ZERO sense for Montreal to trade for O'Reilly. They showed with Subban what they are willing to offer to a RFA, no matter how good they are.

Clearly O'Reilly has it in mind that he wants a bigger deal. He clearly isn't getting it from the Habs.

And if they did give it to him, Subban would rightfully have a **** fit.

Col would ask for Subban or Gally and The Habs would say no and that woulld be the end of the call.

Gorges + Eller for ROR +

or

Pacioretty

Can't see any other assets we'd really jump head over heels to acquire, Pacioretty might require a bit on top but you get the idea.

It's an interesting idea for the Habs, just player-wise, but then, as others have already said, the contracting issue isn't likely to work out any better in Montreal with MB's demonstrated toughness, and then the trade assets req'd would probably be beyond what the building Habs can afford. Eller+??? would interest me, but the "???" is going to have to be another valuable asset and the Habs can't afford that, alas.

Not at all. I would much rather get Georges+ for Ror then Subba. I like the idea of Georges + Eller for Ror. Eller or Leblanc.

Hance the reason why ROR will be an Avalanche player for a long time. He has never scored 20 goals -- EVEN in junior. He is not big. Not a great skater. Not physical. Yes he IS a good player BUT he is NOT a core player. He is no Landeskog.

Eller can be had +, Gorges isn't going anywhere

Eller, Weber or Leblanc + a 2nd

Is Bergeron a core player? Because O'Reilly matches up perfectly with Patrice in terms of career trajectory. He scored 18 goals last year and did not even overachieve, he has 20-25 goal, 35-45 assist perennial potential. His shot has gotten better every year he has been in the NHL, just look at his OT goal versus Carolina for vintage ROR.

Strips the puck from Faulk, charges up the ice and slap shots a bomb past Ward.

You're missing the point of the trade. It isn't to move O'Reilly, it's to fill holes. Eller is a replacement center, Gorges is the basis of the deal.

Weber/Leblanc don't fill holes and a 2nd for a young player like O'Reilly is chump change.

If you don't want to move Gorges, I'd look to get Pacioretty, if you don't want to move either then there isn't a lot to really discuss.

Eller + Desharnais

IIMHO Radar's salary demands have more to do with his position on the depth chart than with him actually being set on making 5mil. As for Radar to Montreal, there are two players (Gorges, Patches) that would be a perfect fit in Colorado and they both ain't moving.

Bergeron was always faster and more offensively skilled. RoR is bit more gritty. It is a gamble to expect him to have Bergerons scoring touch, since he will have to develop that.

If the Av's were in a position where they had to trade O'Reilly, I'd see if the Habs could get him with a package around Eller. If that isn't the case, I wouldn't be willing to pay the price the Av's would be able to set.
