How do other fanbases view Lindy Ruff?

Lots of debate on the Sabres board that Ruff's time in Buffalo has run it's course. Lots of people hold him in high regard as a coach (I'm not one of them) and say he'd be picked up in a heartbeat by another team (I don't doubt that).

How do other fanbases view him as a coach?

I think he is a great coach and deserves to be listed as one of the best, even though he didn't win a cup, I think he needs to move on from Buffalo though, would easily be able to pick up another job in a lot of places.

LegionOfDoom91 01-31-2013 02:49 AM

I think he's good coach (you don't coach a team for over decade if you're awful). But I think it might be best for a new face behind the bench soon. And yes he would probably wouldn't be jobless for that long after.

Shaby23 01-31-2013 02:49 AM

Good coach but he might need a change.

JonathanHuberdoh 01-31-2013 02:51 AM

I think he is a fantastic coach. He's done a lot of great things with a sometimes weak Buffalo Sabres roster similar to what Barry Trotz does in Nashville.

I was hoping a few years back when the Panthers hired Dineen that they would maybe somehow be able to pull Ruff away from Buffalo.

Is it just me or is he possible the whiniest coach in the NHL? seems like every time the camera's on him, he's whining to the refs. As far as his actual coaching, I think he's been so long-lived based on who he's had in net. Hasek and Miller can certainly make you look better than you may be. His firing is well past due, at some point, players stop listening. Good coach IMO though.

Jepprey 01-31-2013 02:52 AM

Great coach. Great whiner. I'll take him on my team any day.

I suppose his time has run out in buffalo though.

He's taken some of those teams a lot further than they probably should have gone. Good coach. But as a Leafs fan I really can't stand the guy.

Funny, we all wish we still had Dineen to replace him with.

For some reason he reminds me of MacTavish in both style and method.

Lord Flacko* 01-31-2013 03:04 AM

We'll give you AV if you give us Ruff?

Scottrockztheworld* 01-31-2013 03:05 AM

I'd say he is a good coach but after a certain amount of time a long standing coach's message can get stale in the room.

DKQ 01-31-2013 03:07 AM

Good coach but I think after a decade you basically experience a complete roster turnaround, and with a new roster you need a new coaching mentality.

rumrokh 01-31-2013 03:08 AM

He was very good for a long time, but for one reason or another, he seems to have become less effective. Certainly, the Sabres' lineup is part of the problem, so he could be a better fit somewhere else, but that's probably not the only issue. If he got fired, he would find work as soon as he wanted it, no doubt in my mind. As a head coach? Not sure, at least right away, but someone would gladly add him to their staff.

Glad most of you guys like him...

Ya'll can gave him

sub_zero94 01-31-2013 05:05 AM

to me he seems like a fantastic teacher , his teams are always as prepared as they can possibly be and his teams work their tails off..
in game and in practice

downside, he works them too hard imho in his practices and they wear out collectively as a squad later in the season and into the playoffs they don't have the necessary gas in the tank

HockeySensible 01-31-2013 05:29 AM

I don't mind him.. but I've always found him a little 'ruff' around the edges.

Har, har, har.

JagerPuck 01-31-2013 06:36 AM

Good coach, imo.
Looks like a squishy faced gopher.

Hes been given too many opportunities to win.. may be time for philosophy change in Buffalo.

sayheykid 01-31-2013 06:40 AM

I think he's a good coach, and I'm always a fan of hockey lifers but it's time for a philosophy change in that locker room.

Are we talking about the same Lindy Ruff here?

T-Funk 01-31-2013 06:59 AM

Good coach who has worn out his welcome, but will be picked up quite quickly by another team.

Jee 01-31-2013 08:24 AM

Best coach in the league imo.

TheSituation 01-31-2013 08:27 AM

The NHL's Andy Reid.

I see him as Buffalo's Pat Quinn. He will be run out of town, and then you'll look back on his time and wonder why they let him go.
