Stephen Weiss to OTT

Seeing as we have lost our #1C for atleast 8 weeks and could potentially use an upgrade in order to ease the load on Turris.. What would it take to land Stephen Weiss as a rental? He's from what I can see losing favour in Florida and it looks like they are going in a different direction with him and I believe he'd be a nice addition to our Top 6 while Spezza heals from back surgery and can still be a nice addition once Spezza returns.

Young players, who can score would be nice.

Or close to NHL ready Top 6 forward.

That's what I would like to get back for him.

Not sure what those respective player values are though.

We got a few guys coming up soon like Bjugstad, Shore(maybe might be sticking now), Howden, in the next year or so. Bjugstad might translate his scoring to the NHL, from the NCAA, but we lack a sniper, aka a guy who can score goals other than charging the net

Well that eliminates Stone and Smith who play more of a power game. Hoffman, Puempel and Regin may be best suited for the Panthers. Other speedy forwards that are a couple years away from NHL but should make it are Pageau and Prince that be added. Alsom did we mention that Bishop is available??? Although likely not need with Markstrom destined to take over the net

Emerica 01-31-2013 01:54 PM

Can he play wing?

Why do you say that? I dont see him losing any favor with the Panthers. He likes it in FL and would like to stay but just didnt want the distraction of a contract negotiation to take away from his play on the ice. Tallon has said he values player who have lots of character and the Panthers are still at least several yrs from being able to replace Weiss with someone in the org as the #1 center. They can't go in a different direction until some of the prospects prove they are capable of handling the load and several of them aren't even in the pro's yet (like Bjugstad).

Currently, he's nursing a groin injury so obviously he wouldn't even do you any good if its because you want to put someone in Spezza's spot for the next 8 weeks. Though Weiss is probably expected back by next week.

Just off the top of my head, I'd think Stone + Puempel would do it...

Perhaps Stone/Puempel + 2nd... hard to gauge those two though.

I would do Puempel plus 2nd for him. Would rather hold on to Stone.

Not keen on adding Weiss at all but I'd do Puempel + 2nd for him. I love Puempel but at this point he is the most tradable of our marquee prospects.

Sorry, but you don't make the playoffs if those are your four centers.

Why is Peter Regin always brought up in trade proposals? He isn't very good and pretty much is what he is at his age.

We will make the playoffs.. 2-0 without Spezza so far no need to panic and rush out and trade young player for a band aid.

You might make it, but you aren't going anywhere.

Last years Stanley Cup finalists:

Devils: Zajac-Elias-Henrique-Gionta
Kings: Kopitar-Richards-Stoll-Fraser/Richardson

Even include the Rangers with: B. Richards-Stepan-Anisimov/Boyle-Mitchell

2-0 so far against Montreal and Washington. You have probably about 25-28 or so games without him now. I don't understand why Sens fans are so cocky. Kyle Turris is your #1 center.

Chacal667 01-31-2013 06:34 PM

a lil bit off topic, but I think stephen weiss could fit pretty well with the Leafs

We just need to make the playoffs without him. Spezza is out 2 months, so could return and play a couple weeks before season ends.

Curtinho 01-31-2013 06:47 PM

Would trade Puempel for Weiss...not sure about Stone.

Not cocky we won those games with team effort and having the best offensive defencemen in the league ..

For a rental you arent giving up a Puempel or Stone and we dont have a 2nd for that rental type deal

It also helped that Anderson played out of his mind. But hey, if you think he can sustain a .967 sv% and .99 GAA over the next two months, well I won't be the one to burst your bubble.

Qward 01-31-2013 07:18 PM

Stone is hurt right now.

If you want a guy with a shot, Puempel has a great one.
If you want a guy that can play all situations and will clean up the dirty goals, Noesen is that player.

Both these players are prospects, if you would like a player that is in the NHL to tie you over for the season,

Puempel/Noesen + Regin + 3rd

for Weiss.

Benny FTW 01-31-2013 09:20 PM

Year 2 of 3 of the rebuild. I doubt we get a rental.
