No more triple low five

J-F Chaumont ‏@JFChaumont
#Habs: Carey Price et PK Subban ne feront plus leur célébration (low high five) après une victoire. "Je veux qu'on reste humble"-Therrien.

So, Therrien decided to take out the triple low five to stay humble after a victory. It's was funny but I think it's a good decision with the new philosophy of the club.

Habsawce 02-01-2013 12:15 PM

Would Therrien have murdered Yakupov after his celebration? Who cares, it's their thing and a sort of tradition.

Dumb move imo

Dr Gonzo 02-01-2013 12:15 PM

repost from other thread:

The players could all strip down to their skivvies and do la cucaracha for all I care after a win. The key part is the win. Emotion is good.

Subban's show has to come to an end? :dunno:

He did it with Price, and the fans loved it. It was a very small act that in no way denigrated the opponents, and it made the home crowd happy.

Silly decision, but I'm not the coach.

Part of what makes Subban great is how electrifying he is emotionally and with his personality.

Therrien needs to talk to Hal Gill. "Let PK be PK, it's what makes him great"

le_sean 02-01-2013 12:18 PM

Good, they can triple low five after they win the Cup. It was pretty ridiculous seeing them do it last season when wins meant possibly getting up to 14th in the East.

Agreed.

That said, if MT thinks this type of discipline will lead to more wins I'll happily accept it.

Once Price does a celebration after winning a shoot out he'll be benched for a month:shakehead

Hockey isn't supposed to be entertaining. Glad Therrien intends to keep things formal.

They should lower ticket prices for every fan friendly thing they take out of the game. Only seems fair.

It's a team game and as we saw since the beginning of the season, the whole team salute the fans after the game. Don't get my wrong, I love Subban. But in a whole team concept, these kind of celebration have no place. Entertaining for sure, but needed...?

PricePkPatch 02-01-2013 12:20 PM

Who remembers Price bodychecking Subban in the OT win against Chicago?!

Winning is everything. The rest is baloney.

Yhea... Now, tell me exactly. The labor dispute that happened in the past 8 months, it was about WINNING, right? :sarcasm:

Something that can rile up the crowd, make the fans closer to their team, etc... That sure isn't important. It's not like Hockey is a business that we need to sell, right?

The only reason pro-sports exist is because they are mass entertainment for the modern pleb.

Yes, it was ridiculous to give the fans a little something to cheer about, as silly as it was, in such a terrible year.

How dare they.

My first reaction was to call it a dumb move but then I saw it as Therrien trying to help Subban; an attempt to help him keep his focus on his game and take a little (media) pressure off his shoulders.

Reporter: So PK what do you think about this decision regarding the triple low five?
Subban: I am not the coach. I am here to help this team win. Team... blablabla... team.
Reporter: So coach, why are you doing this?
Therrien: Pas l’temps d’niaiser avec ça! Next question.

=> No more talks about the triple low five.

Again, I think Therrien will be a good coach for Subban.

EDIT:

Oh... and this:

This decision makes no sense. My guess is that a major trade is brewing.

TheBabysitter* 02-01-2013 12:26 PM

I'm so angry right now after reading this. it was their tradition and they did it when the other team was always gone off the ice! screw you Therrien!! this isn't a cult. arghhhgghgg l;sdue

NotProkofievian 02-01-2013 12:27 PM

Michel Therrien just hates fun. I would prefer if PK did his celebrations on the opposing team's center ice like T.O.

thaivuN 02-01-2013 12:27 PM

Wonder how much that decision has to do with listening to his buddies from l'Anti-Chambre.

hototogisu 02-01-2013 12:30 PM

Not really a big fan of quelling anyone's personality, P.K.'s or otherwise, but I guess if this is in line with the team's new philosophy, so be it. Time will tell if it pays off.
