If the lights went out in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup...

How bad would the media be hating on the NHL? It appears to be a non-issue with the Super Bowl last night, but it just feels like something that would be thrown in the face of the NHL.

ZARTONK 02-04-2013 10:05 AM

Yeah, cuz it's the NHL's fault if power is lost in a city...

I like to think the media's a little smarter than that.

Brewsky 02-04-2013 10:11 AM

They'd blame the NHL, how it's a second class league and how there's nothing professional about the game...says ESPN.

WhatThePuck 02-04-2013 10:21 AM

Fans would blame it on Bettman .

It would take a lot more than that to get the media take interest in hockey.

rabbit3119 02-04-2013 10:28 AM

Fire Bettman
This is a setup
Team "x" has a guy on the inside
Had the power not gone out, my team would've won
Fire Bettman
Bettman puppett for Illuminati.

LastWordArmy 02-04-2013 10:29 AM

Wasn't there fog in a game once too?

DeadPuckEraSurvivor 02-04-2013 10:31 AM

no one would hate on the NHL because of it.

this is a huge insecure reach

New Orleans didn't lose power. It was just a problem with the stadium.

IMO there would have been a bigger issue made out of the power had the 49ers completed their comeback.

Yeah that's what I meant. That was badly formulated.

mouser 02-04-2013 10:35 AM

They could just go get the glowing pucks out of storage and keep playing :naughty:

moolah3i4 02-04-2013 10:35 AM

Bettmans fault! :D

Parker McDonald 02-04-2013 10:37 AM

Well the lights already went out in a Stanley Cup Final. Twice in the same series, I believe.

No Fun Shogun 02-04-2013 12:11 PM

I'd like to imagine that a goon line would take advantage and try to take out the other team's star player(s) under the cover of darkness.

I mean, just imagine that.

Malkin passes to Crosby who passes it back to Malkin and it's a two on one.... but the lights are out.... oh, they're back on. OH MY GOD! Malkin and Crosby are both down! How did that happen?!?! And why is the other team's fourth line whistling non-nonchalantly by the bench?

jumptheshark 02-04-2013 12:57 PM

I remember watching the bruins oiler game and my entire family went

WTF--when the lights went off and when it came out that three things went wrong to cause the lights to go out--we figured some boston fan drove into the power plant or somethibg

gwinnettjet 02-04-2013 12:58 PM

the shield has brought justice to hockey

Kloparren 02-04-2013 01:01 PM

You should be okay as long as you keep Craig Ferguson away from the rink, he's cursed.

kingsholygrail 02-04-2013 01:03 PM

People were okay with the power going out at the Superdome?

John Harbaugh was flipping his ****.

mrzeigler 02-04-2013 01:07 PM

I was at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh when power went out in 2007 or 2008. I can still hear the echoes of that chant:

"New arena! New arena!"

zeykshade 02-04-2013 01:20 PM

I just love that the power goes out in the middle of the largest non-automotive sporting event of the year due to an outside power supply issue, but we, as a nation, can't spend money upgrading infrastructure.

I remember watching that game. Wasn't it released later it was a fire that caused it? No one in attendance knew though:laugh:

It would be fodder for jokes, by the people whose only contact with the sport is by making fun of it.

ESPN hasn't been ragging on the NHL for about 5 years, so why do people still keep bashing them. They don't air NHL games, so obviously they aren't going to talk about it as much as the sports they are showing. Just like you won't find a lot of NBA stories on CBS Sports, while they have tons of college basketball on the site. Does that mean that CBS Sports hates the NBA?
