2012/13 Injury Update Thread

I also think we should have one of these threads stickied. All injuries and reported updates can be posted here.

As of now as per flames.nhl.com:

http://flames.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=64733

Baertcshi is week to week. The Anton and Bouma are out indefinitely, although apparently the Anton has been cleared for contact.

Hopefully this thread has very little activity this season.

MuffinMerc 02-04-2013 08:47 PM

I thought The Anton was cleared to play?

Flames92 02-04-2013 09:11 PM

He's making the trip with the team so I think hes good to go (or real close)

Johnny Hoxville 02-04-2013 09:14 PM

As far as actual confirmation, I found this on Twitter as per Wes Gilbertson of the Sun:

Quote:

#Flames will soon be in air en route to Detroit. D Anton Babchuk (shoulder) has been cleared for contact and will make the trip.

Johnny Hoxville 02-08-2013 03:21 PM

As per Pat Steinberg's Twitter:

Quote:

#Flames calling Backlund's injury a lower body injury. He'll be re-evaluated tomorrow.
Also, Cammy is day to day with a hip flexer.

Babchuk needs a couple more days of full contact practice before he's cleared to play.

Stewie Griffin 02-08-2013 03:42 PM

So to summarize:

Jan. 20 - Lance Bouma (knee) - out indefinitely
Jan 31 - Sven Baertschi (hip flexor) - week to week
Feb 5 - Miikka Kiprusoff (lower body) - day to day
Feb 7 - Michael Cammalleri (hip flexor) - day to day
Feb 8 - Mikael Backlund (MCL) - 4 to 6 weeks

Bouma is done for the season.

He might be available when the Flames are playing at the end of May. :sarcasm:

So Backlund will be out for 4-6 weeks with a MCL sprain.

Wonderful...

****.. Well this should be a good test.. Good teams fight through injuries, time to see how good our depth really is.

Sean Monahan 02-08-2013 06:55 PM

Backlund....

Is there any kind of decent forward we could get by moving Babchuk? Cuz if there was I wouldn't hesitate

This is what would happen:

1. Trade Babchuk for forward help
2. All forwards healthy within a month.
3. Defensemen start getting injured.
4. Wish we had extra defensemen.

I am just as comfortable with Carson and Breen as I would be Babchuk.

We have 7 d out side Babchuck on the roster and we have Breen ad Carson that are able to play limited minutes in the nhl.

Body Checker 02-09-2013 02:42 PM

Babchuk has one of the best first passes out of the zone on the whole team. Doubt Carson or Breen can bring that.

But he is poor at turning to chase a forward with speed.

They can't do what he can but they can play defense unlike Babchuck and if we can get a decent forward for Babchuck I would do it there isn't a step down from Babchuck to Breen.

Ok so he has a better first pass and better first shot.

He is also less physical, slower, and worse defensively.

Babchuk without the puck is a liability, not something admirable in a bottom pairing defenseman.

Update on Baertschi:

Quote:

As expected, can confirm that #Flames LW Sven Baertschi skated yesterday for first time since suffering hip flexor injury.

Good to see he's making progress. I hope he can return quickly, we could really use him

Awesome. We need good health to have good luck.

Johnny Hoxville 02-09-2013 05:01 PM

I like Babchuk to be used as a PP specialist, besides that our other dman on the Flames have a better overall game. I think he can be useful if a game plan can be played to his strengths. Hartley seems to realize this concept, Babs also might look much better in this system. His only major flaw that doesn't fit Hartley's system is his skating ability.

Either way, we should play him a bit and either try raise his stock, maybe he'll be a useful player and can help our cause, and if neither of those outcomes materialize then you trade or waive him.

Hopefully Sven is out no longer than 2 more weeks.

Yeah, I'm just saying that I'm just as comfortable with Street & Horak than I would be in trading Babchuk to fill a hole up front (mostly because the only thing we'd get is a 3rd / 4th liner anyways)

Hartely has managed to improve the games of every other Flame except Comeau. Perhaps Babs could benefit as well?

Where does he fit tho? He can't beat out Widemen, Gio,Jbo, and Brodie has been great on the pp.

Not a bad point but he really is only a shot I don't see where he fits.
