It's pricy, but as we are, we need him, and yes, we can fit it in for next year.

A little expensive but Timonen deserves it. He's done a lot for Philly.

really smart move for the flyers. timonen is an integral part of that backend and is criminally underrated IMO. good to lock him up for another year then decide from there.

I don't think he is either, but next season will have an artificially higher salary cap than it would otherwise due to the CBA compromises. Lessens the effect of "overpaying" for another year.

It's pricey. I figured he would go for $5M.

Flyers didn't have a choice. If he would have left, there was no one to replace him. They are desperate for a puck-moving defenseman, and the #1 guy on the market was already on the roster. Guess what happens in that scenario.

They re-sign said player.

Can't complain at all. He's such a valuable player to this team. Veteran leader, great PMD, and PP QB.

I really expected him to retire after this year, but I guess he's always been a warrior.

Carle just got $5.5 mill
Wideman got 5.25 mill
Kimmo is not worth the 6 anymore...but it is what a UFA D man can get now especially if he is the best one available. Was hoping for a team friendly 4 mill :)

Makes sense. Flyers are worse without him and its better to lock him up. I think they need a established top 3 D-man to become real threats though.

They need him in a bad way, so the $6m are an expression of that, but it is for one year, so it could always be a lot worse.

And I agree that Edler's is a great deal. I am almost willing to bet that if Edler didn't sign, Philly woudld have been trading for his rights and then offering the Kimmo $
