Ott-pit

To Ottawa:
Tyler Kennedy

To Pittsburgh:
Sergei Gonchar

I really suck at proposals, I should stop for a while.

SEALBound 02-06-2013 09:40 PM

Nope. Don't need Gonch back really...

Kennedy would be better used as a trade package for a winger upgrade.

BK201 02-06-2013 09:41 PM

Lol terrible.

66-29-33 02-06-2013 09:41 PM

I'd do it just to have Gonchars point shot back.

There was a reason why we didn't resign him after his lousy effort in the play-off series that goes us eliminated by Montreal. Gonchar doesn't offer us anything at all. I'm not sure he would be in our top seven.

TorstenFrings 02-06-2013 09:42 PM

Did something happen? Is he that bad now? Not a fan of getting Gonchar back at all, but as long as he`d at least be good for the PP, I`d be in for this. We need to acquire a winger to push either Dupuis or Boychuk down into TK`s spot anyway, so sure.

Jaromir Jagrbombs 02-06-2013 09:42 PM

We need Gonch, especially for the PP. Our d would like something like
Methot-Karlsson
Borowiecki/Lundin-Phillips
Wiercioch-Benoit

No thank you to that.

Captain Hook 02-06-2013 09:43 PM

Who would Kennedy score against if he didn't get to play Ottawa?

Makes no sense for either side. Pens would need to get a depth winger in a deal for Kennedy and Ottawa wouldn't want to acquire a rental like Kennedy for their rental Gonchar.

SEALBound 02-06-2013 09:45 PM

Kennedy+Maatta

for

Gonchar + Turris

SoulPatch 02-06-2013 09:48 PM

Uh, this stinks from an Ottawa point of view.

We don't need Tyler Kennedy. What we need are NHL calibre defencemen, and Gonchar is playing fine these past 2 years. Pens fans don't want him, and that's perfectly fine with me.

This is terrible, Turris has been amazing for us since we acquired him and is looking like he will be our 2C for years to come.

MovesLikeJagr68 02-06-2013 09:49 PM

Way too much for a rental.

FrontenacSens 02-06-2013 10:13 PM

I suck at proposals. The Sens do need Gonchar, right now anyway.

This is worse than the OP. By far.

I was trying to advocate how little we actually want Gonchar back. If you guys throw in Turris, we might take ol Gonch back ;)

Of course it was bad, it was less than serious...

Ya i know. :sarcasm:

Dick Whitman 02-06-2013 11:43 PM

I like Gonchar's game in Ottawa. Would rather not see him dealt if we're a playoff contender.

Tender Rip 02-07-2013 02:35 AM

Gonchar will be one of several D-men the Pens could go for as rentals when the deadline approaches. More so if one of the other D-men are dealt (Niskanen or - hope not - Despres) to get one more top6 winger.
If Ottawa are in the running, as they might well be if they survive Spezza's absence, I don't think there's any chance Gonchar is available though.

GuineaPig 02-07-2013 04:14 AM

Only if Ottawa's out of it at the deadline. The blue-line needs Gonchar desperately.

I know someone who wants him back.

It's not the same anymore so it's never coming back :(

So, you are saying a young 21-year old like Despres, who has been solid since moving into the one pairing with Letang, would get displaced by a declining 38 year old? You are a fool if you think that.

TK is what he is and is valuable for the third line. He would be available, but would be packaged with a pick or a prospect to fill a long term need - an upgrade at forward. A big void would be created. Why trade a forward in Pittsburgh's case for a guy that wouldn't be in the Pens' top six and a 38 year old rental too boot? If you were on the other end - a Penguin fan, would you do this? It makes little sense.

SenateReform 02-07-2013 07:51 AM

Gonchar isn't getting moved. His trade value is low and his value to the Sens is high. Makes zero sense to trade him.

Why on Earth would we take away one of only 3 NHL D we have for, of all things, Tyler Kennedy? Either we're in the race and keep him, or we're out of it, and can get a lot better quality than that from another team. Big pass from Ottawa.

Yeah. I'd do this deal as a deadline deal if we're out of a playoff picture. I'd prefer a 2nd rounder, but I'd take ManBearPig.

If we're in a playoff spot, or even at all close to one, we'd need Gonch. We're just too thin on the blueline to go into the playoffs without him.
