Chicago-San Jose

:hawks
Clowe

:sharks
Stalberg+

Both are going into UFA but both are signable guys. Sharks want speed, Hawks want toughness. It makes sense. I know the Hawks need to add, just not sure what.

I would be interested, remember we also have Sebastian in our system so it's always nice to have both brothers. Good odds re-signing would be a non-issue

I'm going to do something unprecedented here and say straight up is probably fair. They are both rentals and I don't think Chicago needs to add, maybe a 4-5 pick at most.

In a heartbeat! Clowe has been an anchor to any line he's been on. Stalbergs speed would be A+. Lets do this

magic school bus 02-07-2013 11:14 AM

No way. Clowe is a top-6 forward, Stalberg is a 3rd liner. It makes our team worse in a must-win year.

massivegoonery 02-07-2013 11:17 AM

Yeah, he can play on a line with Arnott and Brunette.

Chelios 02-07-2013 11:40 AM

I actually think this is a pretty fair deal for both sides. I am a little leery about losing Stalberg's speed, but it is no secret that we need to get tougher. Worst case scenario (if Clowe sucks as bad as shark fans seem to think he does) we bump him down to the 4th line and bring up Jimmy Hayes to replace Stalberg. I don't see much downside from a Chicago perspective.

Blackhawkswincup 02-07-2013 11:55 AM

Clowe struggled at times last year and has been bad this year from what I have seen of Sharks

No thanks

Not anymore.

digdug41982 02-07-2013 12:36 PM

If he is bringing the team down, put him on the 4th line like Chelios said. He still would have a lot of worth on the PP and as a tough guy. It's a tough descision. Both players are valuable in different ways.

WTFetus 02-07-2013 12:50 PM

During the off-season, most Chicago fans were fine with Stalberg and Morin for Clowe. Is that still on the table?

No, that would be too much. The Hawks are much better without slow players dragging them down. The only reason I would do it is because I think we can hide Clowe in the bottom 6 and use him for the things he does well (toughness, PP).

Stalberg put up 43 points in 79 games last season playing mostly on the 1st line. This season he is on pace for about the same (over a full season) playing on the 3rd line. Offensively he is a 2nd line talent.

Clowe fits the Hawks need for more size and could fit in well on any of our lines. I'd even add a 4th to make the deal happen.

Because of a bad 10 games (he spent mostly in the penalty box)?

DuckEatinShark 02-07-2013 01:14 PM

I'd do this if you add the 4th.

Based on Clowe's play this year and last year, he's not a top 6 player anymore. I'm willing to tolerate Clowe's slow start for now because of the lack of training camp, but if he still sucks by the deadline I'd definitely do this.

Clowe hasn't been winning puck battles in the corners nearly as much, and has been a turnover machine when he's not in the box.

magic school bus 02-07-2013 01:24 PM

Clowe has 5 points in 10 games while playing terribly (for Ryane Clowe's standards) and that doesn't include the goal he scored vs Edmonton that was wrongly taken away. Selling low on him would be a dumb move.

There was a time when Clowe was great a power forward so who went to the dirty areas and was excellent on the boards, but early on last season (and even a little bit the season before), he started to morph into a wannabe Joe Thornton but without the playmaking skills, puck possession ability, or defensive awareness. He's been a total disaster early on this season (if Todd wasn't so stubborn he would have moved him to the 3rd or 4th line by now), but his problems extend well beyond a 10-game stretch.

It wasn't really wrongly taken away. Dubnyk didn't play it as aggressively because he heard the whistle. Clowe also fumbled the puck for like 3 seconds, an Edmonton forward would have backchecked it off if they didn't hear the whistle.

CupfortheSharks 02-07-2013 03:46 PM

-Clowe won't be traded.
-Clowe will sign a cap friendly deal ths summer.
-Clowe will retire a Shark after moving his way down to the 4th line.
-Clowe will be hired into Sharks management just like DW, Marchment, and Ricci.

Book it.

hockeyball 02-07-2013 03:48 PM

Honestly I think Clowe just needs a change of scenery. I suspect he won't re-sign here even if it's offered. I doubt many will agree, but that's my honest guess.

Bubba88 02-07-2013 04:11 PM

have to say that I'm not interested in Clowe... the player I'd want from the Sharks is Wingles

cmon now. the guy has shown he can be better and is still producing okay numbers.

Mafoofoo 02-07-2013 04:29 PM

If you can add a 4th or something we have a deal.

Make it two 7th rounders instead :sarcasm:

Pinkfloyd 02-08-2013 12:05 AM

I'd rather have a 2nd round pick than Stalberg.
