Early candidates for CHL Defenseman of the year

With the regular season winding down in junior hockey, who are your favorites for winning the CHL defenseman of the year title?

will13 02-08-2013 11:42 AM

Out west I'd probably go with Brandon Kichton, Seth Jones or Morgan rielly

Christien 02-08-2013 11:42 AM

Ryan Sproul is making a strong push for that title.

Cody Ceci and Seth Jones.

Agreed, He's having a very good year so far. Steal for detroit

Atomos2 02-08-2013 02:01 PM

Ryan Sproul. Just look at the amount of games he's played and what he has been able to do and it will be obvious.

RJQuack 02-08-2013 02:09 PM

no one from the Q will win it anyways, but Ouellet hasn't been the best D in the league this year arguably .. Gagne should be an option in this poll

PumpkinBomb 02-08-2013 02:26 PM

I think the best defensive team in the CHL is the Oil Kings, with Reinhart and Musil leading the charge.

I think these awards get voted on before playoffs, if not, I could see that having an influence.

It's Sproul's to lose at this point with the season he's having, especially since his defensive game has really progressed

Sticks and Pucks 02-08-2013 03:06 PM

I'm going with Ryan Sproul. He keeps improving every year.

ricky0034 02-08-2013 03:07 PM

with the way things are going? Sproul

his offense is just ridiculous this year

Sidney the Kidney 02-09-2013 12:33 AM

Scott Harrington. ;)

If a mostly offensive dman from the OHL is going to get it, it wont be Ceci. Sprouls been better defensively and is killing him offensively.

I dont know if Sproul is complete enough to win it but the numbers he is putting up are ridiculous

FishManSam 02-09-2013 11:42 AM

Sproul...

Ceci is awful in his own zone.

Jones and Rielly haven't played enough due to WJC's. Also the Warriors are pure trash this year.

I don't actually think Harrington would win because his offensive totals don't have the "wow" factor needed to take home the award.

However, he did finish second in OHL Defenseman of the Year voting to Dougie Hamilton last season, and has played even better as a shutdown defender this year. So while I doubt he wins, I don't think his name is out of place as a contender.

Karl alzner didn't exactly put up huge numbers either when he won it in the 07-08 season but he did play more games so maybe that had a bit to do with it.

Debatable how much better he is year, and he lacks the offense to really belong in the conversation. CHL Defenseman of the year should at least be a somewhat two way guy.

I'm starting to lean Sproul, kid is just dominating.

will13 02-14-2013 05:26 PM

Griffin Reinhart should get more consideration IMO

WildcatMapleLeafs28 02-14-2013 05:37 PM

Homer vote for Rielly , wish he was traded to a contender! Sproul is probably the front runner...

But then you wouldn't be able to see him with the leafs or marlies when the whl regular season is over

tyratoku 02-14-2013 10:25 PM

Hey CHL fans, does Matt Dumba have a chance at this at all? As I understand it, once he got sent back from the Wild stuff at the beginning of the season, he really picked up his play. Is that going to help him out much? Or does he have too much ground to make up?

Thank you!

Ryan Sproul has been a man amongst boys in my viewings of him. Great great pickup for Detroit.

WesNichols14 02-14-2013 11:22 PM

wanted to go with Sproul but had to go with Ouellet he has good offence but his game is so polished all around I had no choice. man hell of a second round for Detroit that year Jurco, Ouellet, and Sproul
