Isles and Oilers talking deal.

Its Eklund but he has been good latley.

"if this one goes down it will be a major domino of sorts and shift the balance. If it is going to happen most feel it will happen by gametime tomorrow "

Makes sense with a few odd things going down recently..

Vis coming in and Bailey rejoining the roster.(they will need to waive or trade somone to free up those spots)

Isles getting Tim Thomas cap hit.(Mayby so they can make a trade without going under cap)

Okposo sitting out of practice. said it was an illness but he was fine in the game the night before and is playing today.

Reasoner is a healthy scratch for the 1st time since becoming an Islander.

Even if its not with the Oilers I could see the Isles making a move.

It might not be a big move, it could be as simple as Reasoner for a pick or it could be bigger around Striet and/or Okposo.

Whitney, Gagner, and Smid are all enticing pieces that are up for new contracts in the summer.

CREW99AW 02-09-2013 05:35 PM

A major domino of sorts and shift the balance?

Isles fans are speculating about Eberle to LI.

Don't let us down Eklund ;)

I dont think the Isles will be looking for soon to be UFA's. unless they were throw in's.

capitalsrock 02-09-2013 05:36 PM

Thomas to Edmonton?

:naughty:

but seriously, Hall, Whitney for Hamonic, Okposo

deckercky 02-09-2013 05:36 PM

Obviously won't be one of the major pieces of either teams, but there's a number of pretty good players that could be moved to shake up (and possibly improve) both teams.

The Oilers will not trade Eberle....

The only way they would do that is if they were getting Tavares and we all know thats not going down in this lifetime..

AfroThunder396 02-09-2013 05:37 PM

Watch it be Theo Peckham for a conditional 6th.

No thanks. Whitney's chronic ankle/foot injury and his awful play, have me wondering if he's downplaying an injury because it's a contract yr.

What’s happened to Ryan Whitney?

Whitney should be a go-to guy on the Oilers’ blueline but looks like Tom Poti out there right now and you know how it was for the quiet, lanky, puck-moving but not overly physical Poti, when he was an Oiler.

Hamonic is the isles Number one defensman....

The 3 least likley Isles to be traded are Tavares,Hamonic, and AMAC

aemoreira1981 02-09-2013 05:38 PM

How many contracts do the Islanders currently have on the books? That may be be an issue here.

PensBandwagonerNo272 02-09-2013 05:39 PM

A big deal between the Oil and Isles seems pretty much impossible

Or Tavares, Hamonic, and Moulson or AMac.

Burnt Biscuits 02-09-2013 05:39 PM

I doubt that Eklund is going to correctly call a trade between the Islanders and the Oil; if it does go down I am expecting something underwhelming like Marty Reasoner for a late round pick.

*sigh* I know.

I expect the big move will end up being Reasoner for a late pick. It'll help the Oilers on faceoffs and open up a spot on the roster for the NYI.

L0STEDT* 02-09-2013 05:41 PM

The Oilers should trade one of their first round picks for Hamonic.

Jag68Sid87 02-09-2013 05:41 PM

Now this could get interesting...

I think that would be an interesting trade, Thomas is a tremendous goaltender.

Please explain why Whitney is enticing? He is playing LOUSY hockey and hasn't been good for a while.

Edmonton isn't dying to trade Hall either, but you have to give to get if you want a winger for Tavares for the future.

Reasoner for a late pick isn't exactly a major domino of sorts and shifts the balance.

Islander Prophet 02-09-2013 05:44 PM

I hope we get a trade done soon, this Thomas thing is making me curious

This is Eklund. I don't expect a real blockbuster.
