Pens call up Joe Morrow

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Joe Morrow from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Morrow, 20, will be looking to make his NHL debut Sunday night against New Jersey. The 6-foot-1, 204-pound blueliner has spent his first professional season with WBS, tallying 10 points (2G-8A) in 39 games played.

Morrow, who was drafted by the Penguins in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft, has posted two points (1G-1A) and a plus-5 rating over his last nine AHL games.

Captain Hook 02-10-2013 09:44 AM

Trying to replace Letang's offense or is there another injury?

Wes C Addle 02-10-2013 09:45 AM

Wasn't expecting to see this. Hopefully he has a good first game. Imagine he's replacing Reese today?

ColePens 02-10-2013 09:45 AM

I like it... but scares me as to why?

Shrimper 02-10-2013 09:45 AM

I'm guessing that Letang and Niskanen haven't recovered from injury. My guess is that Reese will be sent down/number 7.

Orpik-Martin
Despres-Engelland
Bortuzzo-Morrow
Reese

Ogrezilla 02-10-2013 09:46 AM

well that's neat. Want him on the powerplay is my guess.

Wow, wasn't expecting this at all.

Hopefully he shines tonight.

cheesedanish87 02-10-2013 09:47 AM

Has to be either a injury or trade

Sideline 02-10-2013 09:48 AM

Excellent.

Dominos?

Correct. I'm expecting that he'll replace Dylan Reese in the line up.

so he can play today and get some practice with the team. That actually makes perfect sense. There aren't many chances to get good practices in with this schedule. This is about as big of a gap as we're going to see any time soon.

Awesome. I can't wait to see him play tonight. I'm nervous since everyone dramatically overrated our prospects, but I have a feeling he will
be the real deal.

We can't produce top 6 forwards but we are pumping out dmen left and right.

edit: I guess that's Rhianna? I had no clue what she looked like.

mpp9 02-10-2013 09:55 AM

It'll be interesting if they use him on the PP. He's not replacing any of the 4 forwards, and I doubt they trust him enough to be the lone point man.

Yeah, I'm excited to see the kid play with us, but I'm not sure about this one.

I'm expecting pretty limited minutes tonight but maybe some PP time.

Maybe your right but it dont make sense to me y he would play tonight unless somebody got hurt. Reese didnt do anything to be benched already and u would think nisky is gonna be close to returning since hes skating

johnniewalker 02-10-2013 09:57 AM

Anyone else concerned that Orpik might be in trouble with the league for whatever happened at the end of yesterday's game?

If they gave him a match penalty for abusing the officials then he could be suspended.

Edit: looked it up and he just got 2 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
