St. Louis and Toronto

Last week the Blues reportedly had scouts at the Toronto/Carolina game, and apparently Doug Armstrong is in person at tonight's Toronto/Philly game.

Something seems to be brewing here.

My first thought would have to be that Army is after Phanuef; so Toronto fans, what would the price tag be?

TheKingSlayer 02-11-2013 06:21 PM

Backes.

Randall Ritchey 02-11-2013 06:21 PM

He wants that offensive phenom, Komarov.

blasted_Sabre 02-11-2013 06:22 PM

I doubt it. Guys likely available are MacArthur (impending UFA), or one of our lesser dmen (Holzer, Fraser, Kostka).

Maybe Liles but hes under contract for a while which im guessing STL wouldnt be interested in

Komisarek is scratched, but available as well.

The Blues need a Lefty D man with size and a mean streak.
Outside of Phanuef, you don't have much that would interest us.

No on Backes; maybe on Stewart.

Drew311 02-11-2013 06:49 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if Nonis is after Stewart. He always talks about wanting more size up front.

Something around Gunnarsson?

Sure, if Tarasenko is coming the other way...

Lets end this now.

Phaneuf + Kessel would send back Backes + 2 good prospects.

I wouldnt trade Kessel straight up for Backes.

JMcLeaf 02-11-2013 06:50 PM

Stewart please

But if he's there today, he's looking at someone who is playing right now.

STLBLUES44 02-11-2013 06:51 PM

gunnarsson??? with petro???? i like that.

Were fifth in the conference. Were not trading our Captain.

We have an excess of bottom pairing dmen. Fraser has a mean streak and is a reliable bottom pairing dman.

Interesting stuff, but Phaneuf only goes if the Leafs are admitting a full rebuild. Seriously, he's just the only point shot/tough as hell/shutdown option the Leafs have. He's played fantastic this year, really pulled it back and adhering to Carlyle's system.

So really, if we're talking Phaneuf, it's some good youth coming back. Otherwise, not sure what the Blues need.

STLBLUES44 02-11-2013 06:56 PM

schwartz, ponich, 1st and elliott for phaneuf and scrivens????? lmao

Drew311 02-11-2013 06:57 PM

Let's get crazy.

Grabovski + Kulemin + Gunnarsson for Berglund + Stewart + 2nd

We'd be willing to start with Stewart and a 1st. What else would we need to add?

Paralyzer008 02-11-2013 06:58 PM

Wonder if Blues would want Jay McClement back. Leafs have been misusing him a bit and Steckel is a viable replacement if they deal him

Leafs won't swallow their pride and trade a guy they just signed who by all accounts is loved by the coaches and teammates (he's wearing an A).

frankthetank91 02-11-2013 07:02 PM

Stewart is who we'd be interested in IMO. Gunnarsson+MacArthur is good value.

He is not being misused, he's been playing great. Carlyle loves him, the fans appreciate him. Not goin anywhere.

blasted_Sabre 02-11-2013 07:04 PM

Leafs are not trading Dion at this point. If we're out of it at the deadline, MAYBE, but not now while our team is playing decent.

As good as Dion is playing I think this could be the start of a good deal. Stewart adds to the offensive core and a 1st gives them good options in what people feel is a deep draft.

Most would likely feel that this signals a rebuild and admits to not making the playoffs but I see it otherwise. This trade would allow them to have a 2nd line of Kulemin-Grabo-Stewart to follow Lupul-Bozak-Kessel (once Lupul is back), which then gives them the option of dropping Mac to the 3rd line where he belongs or trading him to gain an asset near the deadline or otherwise.

Strategically done, trades like this can position teams in the near and distant future to still add the pieces necessary without throwing in the towel.

Add Schwartz and we may have something.
