sj-nyr

to :rangers Joe Thornton

To :sharks Brad Richard

Thoughts?

laundryman 02-11-2013 07:55 PM

Why exactly does each team do this?

Vyborny 02-11-2013 07:57 PM

Joe Thornton is just too valuable for the Sharks. Richards is nice, but the incentive isn't there for SJ. Don't think the Rags do this either

With the way Richards has played this year, I think the Rangers would consider it. Richards has a huge contract remaining and if he doesn't pick things up, the Rangers will possibly use their amnesty buyout on him so they aren't hampered with his contract (especially given their cap situation will probably stop them from signing Gaborik or any other big UFAs in the next few years).

It's definitely not a sure thing but could see the Rangers being up for it. Not sure if the Sharks would though.

I haven't watched a lot of Rangers games this season so I wasn't sure. Thornton is in a bit of a slump right now, but still cant see DW making this move.

WTFetus 02-11-2013 08:13 PM

Nope.

x BEUKEBOOM x 02-11-2013 08:35 PM

Richards has 9pts (2g, 7a), 27 shots, and +5 in 11 games.

I don't understand the panic/hate this guy is getting this year like he is somehow Gomez/Drury 2.0.

It's not like there is a glut of true #1 centers in the league. I'd hate to see where the Rangers would be without him and Stepan/Boyle/Halpern/Miller as our center group.

TheJuxtaposer 02-11-2013 08:37 PM

Not even remotely ****ing close. Get the **** out.

Thornton>>>Richards, and that's not even considering contracts.

I agree that Thornton is a better player than Richards but I don't think it's by that much in this stage of their careers.

The first >: Thornton is better than Richards offensively.

The second >: Thornton is (significantly) better than Richards defensively.

The third>: Thornton is our team captain/franchise player/fan favorite/good contract.

Yeah, I think >>> is warranted.

sharkbite3 02-11-2013 08:44 PM

Uh, no. Thornton isn't going anywhere.

DrSanchez 02-11-2013 08:44 PM

I'm sure Thornton would wave his NTC to go play for Tortorella. Not like they'd have any reason to dislike each other from last season, right?

Mafoofoo 02-11-2013 08:55 PM

Hahahahahahaha nope. Sharks easily pass.

CanadienShark 02-11-2013 08:58 PM

Hahahahahahahahahahah no from the Sharks.

Kershaw 02-11-2013 09:01 PM

hahahahahahahaha yes from the Ranger easily. Easily because Thornton's on a better contract and is better than Richards at everything besides maybe the playoffs.

Hatrick Marleau 02-11-2013 09:13 PM

Wow this bad! No way from SJ.

CBJenga 02-11-2013 09:17 PM

throw in a 1st, 2nd, and all 7th rounders the Rangers will ever have and it's possible.

Maybe, 2 1st, and the 7ths......

Ummm........

Thornton > Richards though, no question or argument about that.

One of the few times the letters AINEC can be applied here.

sjshark91 02-11-2013 09:22 PM

Rather trade Havlat for picks and spend his 5m cap hit on someone with a pair of nuts.

Benny FTW 02-11-2013 09:24 PM

Rangers say yes.
Sharks say nope.

ChrisKreider20 02-11-2013 09:29 PM
