Jody Shelley back to Columbus?

This is sorta rumor/speculation.

A propos of nothing, Aaron Portzline just tweeted this

Would I be surprised if #Flyers LW Jody Shelley made it back to the #CBJ before this season ends? No, I would not be surprised at all.

Last time Shelley was traded, I believe it was for Future Considerations. I would expect something similar this time, or maybe Shelley and a pick for a middling player/prospect.

Prongo 02-12-2013 03:52 PM

Futures is good. If we forget about the future package that is to be had it's no big deal, just take the man back. He doesn't even play for us anymore. Press box is a great place to watch the game though...

I'll drive him to Columbus

Fly Like a C5 02-12-2013 03:53 PM

Why would Columbus want Shelley? He's old and useless.

They'd likely give him a chance to play, unlike the Flyers.

He just got put on IR though

He will sell tickets. And we love him.

joestevens29 02-12-2013 03:57 PM

I thought it was interesting that Shelly has been a HS for 9 games, but finally goes on IR today.

BlueJacket2 02-12-2013 03:58 PM

I would LOVE this.

Was for a 6th round pick, which ultimately was traded to Atlanta along with Clay Wilson for Jason Williams, who helped get us into the playoffs.

He's always welcome in the city, but on the team? Can't imagine he'd have a place to play.

Portzline has an obsession with enforcers of the CBJ past, anyways. I mean, for G-d's sake, he still talks constantly about Zenon Konopka as if giving him up was the dumbest move in CBJ history.

Only way this could even begin to make the tinest amount of sense is if it was the followup to trading away Boll. Which I don't exactly expect to happen. Either that or Porty's talking about Jody retiring mid-season and joining the broadcast team.

chunkbox 02-12-2013 04:01 PM

oh , good we need more fourth liners ...

SolidSnakeUS 02-12-2013 04:14 PM

Please take him for future considerations (if plural at all).

Ziggy Stardust 02-12-2013 04:41 PM

I still find it puzzling (and hilarious) that the Flyers spent $3.3M on Jody Shelley. He's only appeared in 1 game this season, earning 7:58 of ice time. That's one pricey healthy scratch.

FlyingHigh28* 02-12-2013 05:23 PM

So... Shelly + Sestitov for Jack Johnson + 1st? :sarcasm:

Leadership. You cannot quantify how much Jody Shelley has meant to this team.:help:

He's good in the room, man. It's all about the room.

SingnBluesOnBroadway 02-12-2013 07:53 PM

He was great with Anisimov!

OCPenguin 02-12-2013 07:57 PM

I find it puzzling why Columbus would want him back at all.

WildcatMapleLeafs28 02-12-2013 08:01 PM

I'm sure Columbus is all set with a younger duo of Boll and Dorsett.

CBJFIG 02-12-2013 08:02 PM

Maybe they want to give him the opportunity to retire a Jacket and join the front office in some capacity. I would welcome him back as an ambassador of CBJ hockey.

Hadn't thought of "retire as a Jacket" as a possibility. That one's actually semiplausible.

And I will go ahead and make the obvious "he's the next GM" joke before anyone else does so we can get it over and done with.

For the team and fans. Not to score goals. ;)

Ziggy Stardust 02-12-2013 10:11 PM

Is the phallic shaped Boomer or Stinger still employed by the Jackets? Maybe Shelley can become the new team mascot/cheerleader.

Untapped potential.

mercury 02-12-2013 11:13 PM
