Lehtonen for Vezina

There may not be a more exciting goalie in the league... Is living up to his draft status...

Could potentially win 30-35 game this lockout season and have a .930-.935sv%

Playing behind a really young inexperienced blueline

I've watched him Hasek teams this season

dnicks17 02-12-2013 11:07 PM

He gets my vote.

MetalGodAOD 02-12-2013 11:07 PM

Needs more love. It's absolutely insane what he does night in and night out behind the blueline Dallas has.

damacles1156 02-12-2013 11:08 PM

He will get injured, it always happens when someone makes posts like these.

Step 02-12-2013 11:08 PM

Aaaaaaaand I dropped him from my pool this season. FML

Vankiller Whale 02-12-2013 11:08 PM

Luongo for Vezina. Hasn't allowed more than 2 goals in a single game this season so far.

You watch Fasth this year? Not always a good thing but he makes some pretty crazy plays when the puck is loose, it's nothing if not entertaining plus he's putting up great numbers.

Faidh ar Rud Eigin 02-12-2013 11:09 PM

Dallas isn't good enough to win that many but he's been the reason Dallas is winning. Craig Anderson's stats dwarf his right now but no doubt in my mind Lehtonen has been the best goalie in the league this season.

Joey Moss 02-12-2013 11:09 PM

Lehtonen has to be the most underrated goalie in the league. What a trade that was for Dallas.

fly4apuckguy 02-12-2013 11:10 PM

He was unreal tonight against the Oilers.

Puckgenius* 02-12-2013 11:11 PM

Kari Lehtonen - this guy is solid

Anyone still think hes not a top 10 starter? Not just from tonight but hes become one of the most improved and most consistent goalies in the league. I expect him to be the clear cut starter for Finland in Sochi.

Do you write something about the Ducks in every thread?

serge2k 02-12-2013 11:15 PM

He's not winning 30-35. 25 would be a solid total, maybe more if he is very good and the stars play well.

batmansuncle 02-12-2013 11:15 PM

With Dallas playing Jordie Benn, Larsen, Dillon, Rome and Oleksaik on D alot this year, and how he's won games and kept us in games we've lost, he's been unreal. Even if he keeps this up, i doubt he even gets consideration anyways. Either way i dont care, im just glad he's a Dallas Star!

syz 02-12-2013 11:15 PM

This is a season or two late; Dallas has been giving up more shots against than any team in the league for a couple of years now. Often out shot and outplayed, but Lehtonen carries them to bubble status.

He's the new Florida-era Luongo.

Puckgenius* 02-12-2013 11:15 PM

Lehtonen is on the level of Luongo, Ward, Miller

Agreed - He must face the most shots / minute then any goalie out there.

Loved him in Atlanta, and love him in Dallas.

I wish he never signed the extension and would have tested free agency and Detroit or Edmonton would have signed him.

Oh well, go Dallas.

Won't play enough, unfortunately.

Guy finally starts a season hot and he has another goalie who he has to split with. Bad luck.

danishh 02-12-2013 11:18 PM

lehtonen's problem is that everyone is already biased by years of him letting them down. He turned the corner last year, but it might be too late to get him mentions in the club of elite goalies.

Modo 02-12-2013 11:18 PM

The only gripe I have with Kari, although to his credit the rest of the team takes some blame:

Since coming to Dallas, I'd say Kari has probably lost twice as many shutouts as he's earned. He always manages to let one in in the closing minutes of any game before picking up the win. Happened early in this season vs. Detroit, and will likely happen again in the next month or so of games. Personally, I think Razor's to blame for most of them, though. Damn jinxes, and from a former goalie no less!

Aside from being terribly unlucky in the ways of the shutout, Kari has been nothing short of phenomenal during his time in Dallas. Almost always comes up huge on a regular basis behind a VERY green (lol) defense corps. He's shaken off the injury woes that plagued him early on, and I think others are starting to take notice of the fact that he's now living up to his draft position.

This season may turn out to be the best so far of his career, and if he can parlay that into some recognition in the form of a Vezina nomination, he'll finally truly earn his spot in that upper echelon of NHL goaltenders, a spot many here feel he's already attained.

Shanahanigans 02-12-2013 11:18 PM

Man the Oilers had like 5 chances that I thought were sure goals that he stopped....ugh.

Ask Ottawa and Toronto fans

I meant that more in the sense that it's debateable that he's the most exciting goaltender in the league. I just gave the best example I could personally give. Another one I can give is Lundqvist, but that one almost seems like a foregone conclusion.

McTankel 02-12-2013 11:21 PM

Anderson for vezina... Just had a 43 save shutout tonight...what's his gaa? 1.2?

interesting note: the two best goalies statistically (GAA,SV%) this year trained together in florida under francois allaire during the lockout.

DatsyukNBure* 02-12-2013 11:24 PM

BY FAR the best performer this season. Deserves the Vezina if he keeps this up.
