David " the new Zach Parise" Clarkson

He's a UFA this summer? Do you think he will re-sign, or parlay his success on a new team?

Currently signed at 2.666.

He's repeatedly praised Lou for giving him a shot, and this is the coach who claimed him off waivers when he was in the OHL basically saving his NHL career. The way he talks about Lou and them just shows loyalty and respect, I think he resigns for a few years in the range of 4-4.5. On the open market, he'd probably hit five million or more.

To me, it's either Toronto or New Jersey. If the Devils offer him something reasonable, he'd be in NJ for a while.

Hockeypete49 02-13-2013 11:02 AM

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. How many times will David be a UFA? You would think his 1st choice would be to stay in stinking north Jersey. But he has to think about his future. I think he will at least listen to offers unless Lou steps up and pays the man his worth.

Cullksinikers 02-13-2013 11:06 AM

He'll probably get $4-5.5 million per.

OCPenguin 02-13-2013 11:12 AM

I have to give this guy kudos for taking his game to the next level. Never thought he could go from a low to mid teen scoring guy and goon to a 30-goal scoring guy. I think he remains in NJ. His style to me is perfect for them ... I say 5 million per year. His type of player is hard to find in the league.

joestevens29 02-13-2013 11:19 AM

If he hits free agency I'm scared of what he is going to get. I really like him and wanted to try snag him when he was having a down year, but physical guys that just had 30 goals and we'll probably get the equavlient in a shortened year are going to get paid and at his age I think it could be another Gomez/Drury/Redden situation in a few years.

Yashintangibles 02-13-2013 11:22 AM

Lou Lamoriello is going to overpay him a bit but it's ok. Lou likes to be kind to his loyal subjects.

Stephen 02-13-2013 11:34 AM

I wouldn't mind seeing him come home to Toronto, but obviously wouldn't want to see him get a fat bloated contract.

Zajacs Bowl Cut 02-13-2013 11:49 AM

4/5 years, $20/25 million

MountainGoat 02-13-2013 12:09 PM

He'll get at least 5M, I think he'll re-sign but I wouldn't be surprised if a Canadian team signs him

Dark Knight 02-13-2013 12:19 PM

Good player. I think he stays in New Jersey although I'd absolutely love him in Toronto.

LEAFANFORLIFE23 02-13-2013 12:42 PM

NJ or Toronto

LPHabsFan 02-13-2013 12:59 PM

He's a real solid player, and he's been lighting it up so far this year, and I'm not saying this is going to happen, but his case reminds me a lot of Martin Lapoine. 3rd/4th liner has an amazing year and then signs a 5 year 5 million per deal with Boston and promptly returns to being a 3rd/4th line guy.

The only thing I can see different is how he perform this year. But I'd be wary to sign him to a long term high salary deal.

Clarkie seems like an idealistic and loyal kinda guy. he's probably going Parise route as well, staying in New Jersey or "going home" to the Leafs

mavstar 02-13-2013 01:22 PM

If Zajac is the measuring-stick, Clarkson should be getting 7mil/yr. ;)

Zajac is better then Clarkson. Clarkson will not get 5.75

GM17* 02-13-2013 01:37 PM

Why does it seem like only Vancouver fans are assmad about Zajac's contract? I can't be the only one seeing that trend.

blinkman360 02-13-2013 01:47 PM

As an Isles fan I want to hate him... but he's just too awesome. I'd love for the Isles to find a way to lure him in, even if they have to overpay, but I just don't see him leaving New Jersey.

Especially after Parise left, I don't see how NJ let's him walk without offering him a fat raise.

Hero 02-13-2013 02:07 PM

5 mill x 5 years in NJD

The last 3 years too. Just dig up old Parise threads, replace the names and it's all the same stuff.

Parise9Crosby87 02-13-2013 02:24 PM
