CBJ @ LAK - Sutter Hasn't Decided Which Goalie To Start

Quote:

Sutter also said he hadn’t decided on a goaltender yet for the game with the Blue Jackets, so it will be interesting to see if he tips his hand at all today.

The line combinations look fairly set for tomorrow night. This is how they were paired up today:

Simon Gagne – Anze Kopitar – Dustin Brown
Kyle Clifford – Jeff Carter – Justin Williams
Dwight King – Mike Richards – Jordan Nolan
Dustin Penner – Jarret Stoll – Trevor Lewis
Colin Fraser and Brad Richardson (extra skaters)

Keaton Ellerby – Drew Doughty
Rob Scuderi – Slava Voynov
Jake Muzzin – Davis Drewiske – Andrew Campbell

I wouldn't mind seeing Bernier start. Makes sense to play the backup against the weaker team (CBJ), and let your starter play against Chicago.

DeeMeck 02-14-2013 02:06 PM

He knows who he is going to start. He just doesn't want to answer the inevitable dumb follow-up questions.

Why start Quick, his struggles are noted...why not play Bernier who was solid?

Do you think by starting Bernier that Quick's confidence will be shaken?

LombardiTool 02-14-2013 02:33 PM

Quick carried last season and carried is more than a few games this season. He is a Vezina finalist and Conn Smythe winner from last season. That goal against Detroit sucked. He has had a few games and was benched against the Blues.

Quick deserves to be back in net against Columbus and I think he will be. Quick always plays better when he has more games not less.

Quick is extremely competitive. Setbacks just make the guy try harder and work on his game. I wouldn't worry about his confidence of Bernier got the nod tonight.

Exactly. He knew who would be starting this game before the Blues game. I also would add to what you said DeeMeck that he may want to put a little pressure on Quick to maybe not make him feel as comfortable, that Bernier is pushing him sort of thing.

Perro 02-14-2013 02:47 PM

Go with the hot hand and start Bernier. Maybe Quick's back could use a longer rest.
Its odd but I am mroe concerned with how the kings will play tomorrow than Sunday. I thnk they will be pumped for the hawks but may come out slow against the Jackets.

JureEe 02-14-2013 02:52 PM

go with Berier.. and against Chicago with Quick... but i dont belive in that scenario...

Sutter doesn't mince words about how he feels about Muzzin's game:

Quote:

Darryl Sutter, if he’s made a decision on who will replace Alec Martinez in the lineup:
“We’ll put Muzzin in, for sure. We took Muzzin out, because he was horse. . . – road apples – in Anaheim. I talked to him about it yesterday. Most guys play like that one NHL game, they’re doin’ time again. He’s got to get his foot on the right pedal if he wants to play again. He’s going to play tomorrow, and he better have it on the right pedal, or somebody else gets a chance. That’s not being harsh or anything. That’s just exactly what it takes to be a defenseman.”

How can you not love the honesty of Sutter.

butteryslugz 02-14-2013 03:04 PM

reward bernier

kingsfan 02-14-2013 03:07 PM

Tell us how you really feel Mr. Sutter

So Muzzin better play like DS/DL have had faith in him or he'll be the new Drewiske/Harrold for a while. Hopefully he has a heck of a game and we get to see what DL has seen for so long.

I don't consider that goal at the end of the Detroit game to be "bad."

Quick is our guy, but playing a weaker team like CBJ is the perfect opportunity to start your backup. I don't want Quick worked into the ground like he was in 09-10 by TM.

Sutter said he regretted not giving Bernier more starts last year, so I won't be surprised to see him in net tomorrow.

Ollie Weeks 02-14-2013 03:13 PM

Yeah, let bernier have the blue jackets, he's earned it.

Perro 02-14-2013 03:13 PM

Keep in mind we play edmonton/calgary back to back next week so there is a chance for Bernier to play one of those two in less than a week.

BigBrown 02-14-2013 03:27 PM

Sutter is gonna stand by his starting goalie and start Quick.

Sydor25 02-14-2013 03:28 PM

Sutter will start his #1 goalie. Bernier will get one of the back-to-back games in Canada next week.

KingCanadain1976 02-14-2013 03:35 PM

Bernier has earned another start Sutter should stick to his word and play the player thats playing well and Bernier is /did play well against the blues. Plus if we continue to play well with him his stock will go up Making people who say he isnt proven choke on the words I say we play him till he loses

KingKopitar11 02-14-2013 03:44 PM

All I gotta say is can this stupid schedule start giving us some Damn games. What's with all the days off. We played more games consistently in the regular season now in a condensed schedule it feels less.

Ron 02-14-2013 03:52 PM

Looking ahead, I like Keith Jones prediction on who is going to stop the Black Hawks incredible point-per-game streak. Check out the video in this link.

Ah, posted it in wrong thread, wanted it to go in pre-game thread. Oh well.

Edit: Okay, okay, still suffering from that tooth extraction two days ago...not altogether back. :/

Sutter did.

On what he liked about the team’s performance:
“I liked our ability to stay with it and score a goal at the end of the first period. Last minute [we] scored a goal at the end of the [third period]…And then faceoff, disappointing. Had to make a save there.”

KingCanadain1976 02-14-2013 04:21 PM

Also think bernier should get the start to show case him to the new gm in columbus who could be a possible trade partner with both there goalies not playing well :)

johnjm22 02-14-2013 04:23 PM

From practice today:
Quote:

- On using Quick vs. Bernier: “This team rode a hot goalie last year, right? They didn’t the year before. We rode a hot goalie last year. So, you know what? We’re in the same thing again. We need one to get hot.” -Sutter
