Not shocking at all. Dallas used their backup and were playing back to back games.

Who knows with Edmonton nothing is season-ending when first reported. The fact remains we could use some proven talent at center.

As for karlsson what happened? Today I see they have an article about Cooke not getting a hearing? Was it dirty?

It could be simply a random event that would eventually happen regardless of the players involved, but because it's Cooke, his skate blade was perpendicular to Karlsson's leg, and it came down right on the Achilles, I just have this feeling it was intentional.

Or at least, reckless as to the consequences. But then I hate Cooke.

Bryan Murray says Erik Karlsson had surgery this morning. 70% cut of Achilles tendon. Out 3-4 months. #Sens

Okay maybe it doesn't prevent the whole injury, but instead of 70% cut is it maybe 40% or 50%?

@winsford99: “@HackswithHaggs: Seguin: "not like Im losing battles all over the ice" no it's not. That's coz he's not in the battles. That's the problem.

Turrican* 02-14-2013 05:00 PM

No heart and no upper lip on that Seguin kid.

Hall has both and in spades.

Modern hockey players get pretty self-satisfied when they win it all super early in their careers. Who knows... maybe our lovable brigade of losers will be better off for these stupid lean years.

The Av's seem like they're low-balling O'Reilly but his contract demands are ludicrous.

The Wild are the exact same team as the Oilers. It's uncanny.

Expectations are even higher for them.

You wanna get an idea of how tough it'll be to make the playoffs in the West this season...

Before today there had been 16 OT games in the East.

Compared to 31 in the West.

And that's exactly why loser points are stupid.

The Florida Panthers probably strongly disagree.

Or for that matter, the Oilers of '06.

EDIT: Speaking of which, they just lost in OT again.

Moonlapse Vertigo 02-14-2013 09:02 PM

Clutterbuck is hurt. He tried to come back in the 2nd but couldn't. Couldn't of happened to a nicer player.

Did we really benefit all that much from the loser point in 05/06? I can't remember. We almost made the playoffs on the strength of them in 07/08.

Actually we had the least loser points in the West in 2008.

In 2006 we had 13 OT losses and fewer wins than the Kings and Canucks below us.

nexttothemoon 02-14-2013 09:22 PM

Koivu scores for Minny to take the lead... miracle if it doesn't end up as a 3 pt game.

edit...

and Avs tie it up seconds later.

GreatMcKeith 02-14-2013 09:37 PM

And we're going to OT. Amazingly enough...

nexttothemoon 02-14-2013 09:41 PM

Holy crap Backstrom made a beauty save on the 4 on 3 PP in OT.

nexttothemoon 02-14-2013 09:52 PM

So 3pt game... Colorado within 2 pts of the Oil now... Minny moves a pt up. Getting ready for that familiar basement spot yet again.

Yeah, but the Oilers won a tonne of shootouts in 2007/2008.

As pissed off as I am at the Oilers it's really unfair that we're so close to the bottom of the West. The 3 point games have been absurd. They were implemented to keep fans interested, enthused and thoroughly invested but my interest is starting to wane. I can already see the endgame here.

Moonlapse Vertigo 02-14-2013 10:09 PM

Barry Trotz >>> Every other coach in hockey

And it's not even really close.

You know if i was a blackhawks fan i'd be in a better mood more often

We've won 5 out of 13 games. I'm amazed we aren't last yet.

On the other hand, if we win 2 in a row here we might be back in the top 8.

When you present it that way it's really eye-opening isn't it? If you want to get really cynical you could also point out that we only have 2 regulation wins in 13 games.

Sigh... this is just going swimmingly. No wonder this team is on "Most disappointing at the quarter mark" lists across the country.

I like to think we got points in 8 of our 13 games ;)
