How the Lindros trade still benefits the Avalanche
On Hfboards, a couple of years ago, someone posted how the Lindros trade to the Flyers in 1991 still benefits the Avalanche. Even the drafting of Paul Stastny could be traced back to the trade.
I can't find that post and I tried searching on Google for the trade lineage, but was unsuccessful.
Does anyone know where I can read the breakdown of the trade leading all the way up to players the Avalanche have acquired in recent years? I can't remember if the drafting of Stastny was where the trade lineage ended or if it went even further than that.
I'd hate to think of how bad we'd be today if we weren't still getting help from the Lindros trade. ;)
Lindros went to Philadelphia for:
1st Round Pick 1993 (Jocelyn Thibault)
Future Considerations (Chris Simon)
1st Round Pick 1994 (See Butcher trade)
Duschesne was involved in a trade with St. Louis for Butcher, Sutter, Bassen
Butcher and the 1994 1st Round Pick went with Sundin to Toronto for Clark, Lefebvre, Wilson and Toronto's 1994 1st Round Draft Pick (Kealty)
Clark was later traded to the Islanders for Claude Lemieux
Lemieux was traded to New Jersey with picks for Rolston and New Jersey's 1st Round Draft Pick (later traded to Boston)
Rolston and New Jersey's 1st Round Draft Pick went to Boston for Bourque and Andreychuk
Wilson eventually flipped to Boston for Boston's 1st (Robyn Regher)
Regher was involved in a trade with Calgary for Fleury and Dingman
Dingman was traded to Carolina for a 5th Round Pick that eventually became Viitanen
Ricci was traded to San Jose in a deal that returned Donovan and Tanguay
Donovan was traded to Atlanta for Tabaracci
Tanguay was traded to Calgary for Leopold and two picks that would become Burki and Cann
Leopold was traded back to Calgary for Wilson, Nycholat, and a pick that would be used to select Elliot.
Hextall was traded to the Island for Fitzpatrick and the Islanders 1st Round Draft Pick (Deadmarsh)
Deadmarsh was sent to LA for Blake and Reinprecht
Reinprecht was traded to Buffalo for Ballard
Ballard went to Phoenix in a large deal that returned Vaananen, Gratton, a 2nd Round Pick (Stastny)
Thibault was traded to Montreal in the deal that brought back Roy and Keane
Simon was traded to Washington for Jones and Washington's 1st (Parker) and 4th (traded back to Washington)
Jones was traded to Philly for Podein
Podein was traded to St. Louis for Keane
Parker was traded to San Jose for a 5th round draft pick (Richardson)
Ryan Wilson and Paul Stastny are the players currently on the Avalanche who can be traced back to the Lindros deal.
Amazing. Thank you.
You guys ripped the Flyers off badly in that Lindros trade.
But then soon afterwards, you simply hand Mats Sundin away for an over the hill Clarke and some junk.
Certainly was one of the best Leaf trades of all time.
It's crazy how this trade indirectly gave the Avalanche huge pieces to both cup wins. 1996 with Forsberg, Roy, Lemieux (and maybe Deadmarsh...I don't remember how much he contributed to the 1996 win) and 2001 with Blake, Bourque, Tanguay, and Roy.
Somehow i dont see Paul Stastny as a very good asset compared to what kind of players led the way to the cups.
