IF you had to trade one, who would it be?

Eller or Desharnais?

Habs 4 Life 02-15-2013 12:44 PM

Desharnais

I'd keep Eller

WhiskeySeven 02-15-2013 12:44 PM

How anyone can say they'd keep Desharnais after his horrible start to the year? He's **** at faceoffs, **** at battling for the puck, **** at basically everything a centre has to have fundamentally.

Dr Gonzo 02-15-2013 12:47 PM

I still see a ton of upside in Eller if he would ever get any kind of minutes.

Give him PP time and some decent wingers and you have a potential #2C, that can play PK.

I don't see that same upside in Desharnais unfortunately.

*DISCLAIMER* Just because I would trade Desharnais over Eller it does not mean I am anti-Franco (I'm a Francophone), nor do I obsess over size. He could be named Jimmy Smith from Saskatoon, and be 6'5 for all I care. I am basing this off his play this year, not his ethnicity or solely his size.

ClasslessGuy 02-15-2013 12:51 PM

Another thread to &?%& on desharnais. Of course everybody will take Eller before him.

Desharnais makes 850 000$ We all know he's small and weak nothing new this season. Not his problem if MT give him 20+ minutes. Not saying I like him as a player because I would trade him tomorow if the price was right but at the moment, he's probably on the of cheapest offensive (not saying he's productive at the moment) guy in the league at that salary (excluding the rookies).

shutehinside 02-15-2013 12:55 PM

Wow, DD get smoked!

Jee 02-15-2013 12:57 PM

Desharnais and it shouldn't even be close.

habs03 02-15-2013 01:03 PM

If you asked me who would I want to be more successful, easily Eller. But DD has had some success, that I think ppl don't give him fully give him credit for.

But if DD doesn't pick up his play soon, you can't really put too much faith in him going forward.

One thing that bothers me in regards to Eller, is under 3 different coaches he has found a way to get into the dog house. I'm not hockey expert, but I don't excatly see what they see, but its got to be something that he needs to improve on that they are seeing.

coolasprICE 02-15-2013 01:06 PM

Depends on the return we would get for DD or Eller.

You do realize Eller was absolutely ****** at faceoff yesterday. Desharnais have been able to keep the play alive in the O-Zone on multiple occasion by sheer tenacity.

People don't give enough credit to DD because they see him getting pushed around easily. Thing is; DD still manage to steal or hold on the puck more often than not when it happens.

Erik Estrada 02-15-2013 01:15 PM

Playing the devil's advocate here..

-Desharnais produced over PPG pace 2 years in a row in the AHL.
-DD's produced 60 points in the NHL
-Eller (with worse minutes and linemates) produced 28 points. We don't know for sure what his offensive upside is. He could have a 45 point ceiling for all I know...
-DD's always been a Plus player in the AHL and NHL
-Cause and Effect has not been clearly determined in the MaxPac-Cole-DD slow-motion car crash. Did all 3 just decide not to suit up this season? Is it Cole? What's up with MaxPac?

BrimStone64 02-15-2013 01:15 PM

Desharnais too similar to Plekanec

Habcentric 02-15-2013 01:16 PM

I am sorry, but i would have to trade DD. I like the guy, but as MiG put so elloquintly in his GDT, we have enough smurfs on this team!

Dr Gonzo 02-15-2013 01:22 PM

So, Miguel Sanchez is 'that guy' who downvotes a youtube video just because it has 0 dislikes.

Way to buck the trend! Down with the man!

Care to elaborate, please?

Trade him for what?? Desharnais has abosolutely no trade value. At least Eller you can trade in some kind of package and get a decent return

Say what?

Quarantesix 02-15-2013 01:25 PM

Desharnais.

But I think he have no value. My guess both stay with team for the rest of the season

euh... no.

I keep Eller. Bigger, better skater, better finisher. Can't give up on him.

I just don't believe you can compete with the better teams with DD as a top 6 center ; he's just too limited physically. But I still think Desharnais should be tried on the wing of an offensive line before trading him.

Jerk Store 02-15-2013 01:27 PM

Hero to zero in a second... Desharnais is having a real tough time, but based on what I saw last year, I'd keep him over Eller.

I voted Desharnais. That being said, what I would do and what Bergevin would do could be very different. More to come on All Habs today...

Sandvich 02-15-2013 01:31 PM

Galchenyuk

It's not hero to zero for me.

Reallity is Desh is small, not a fast skater and he get beat easily in board battles.

We can not sign this gut long term with Plek and AGally on the team. Eller >>>>>> Desh for 3rd line center.

I don't mind if they try him on the wing but with BGally and Gionta we will have a top 9 who is too small in the long run
